    The Monarchy

Why are the Brits still enamored by the Monarchy? I hope that wasn't a rude question.

Why would you ask? Is it because you have some resentment toward the Monarchy?

Please vote Republican in 2012, America can not sustain another 4 years
of Liberal policies that are fiscally and socially destroying the country.

    Grow up.

I'm trying to understand the monarchy's role in modern British society.

Why don't you grow up and answer the question? It's YES isn't it?

Because of their fantastic and interesting history, they are a strong pull for foreign tourists bringing and spending plenty of cash. They provide a non-political Head of State which remains a constant. They facilitate a lot of international business; no-one ever turns down a meeting with the Queen, and many contracts have been awarded to British firms following those meetings.
There are many Brits who would like to get rid of them - usually using the incorrect assumption that they cost the country money (the ones claiming this are mostly benefit scroungers who've never done a days work) but a Britain without a Monarchy would be a poorer place, financially, culturally and socially.

    Ah! I get it!!!
Its like Disney World in America. Gaudy castles, parades, funny costumes and if your lucky, you get to shake hands with Mickey Mouse or Snow White.

Here's another example of Raider trying to start a fight in a new thread with anyone she doesn't generally agree with. What the hell is wrong with this B**tch??

Perhaps the real question should be:

'Why are other countries so enthralled (generally) with 'our' Royal Family?'

I mean I can understand the Americans being so in awe, I mean they just have to be, after all there was several attempts to make George Washington king of the United States! But why the Germans, French, etc.?

One thing is for sure though, I would rather have the Royal Family (with all its nuances) than a Disney World in the US or Paris.

    You've given valuable insight Jasdon.

Monarchs were considered direct speakers of God in the old times. We now know they were simply faking it.

@katherine bush wasn't in touch with his own brain !!

I agree with Jason. They are a constant through every situation. I'd hate to live in Britain without a monarch.
