I read a study a while back that one in five claims are denied. That is so resource exhaustive to have to file an appeal.

What complicates matters further is each and every single insurance company has different claims forms, paper work, reimbursement rates, filing procedures, and appeal processes.
You don't even know the beginning of it. I used to listen to my father in law rant on about how much the insurance companies royally f- over doctors.

Far fewer people are becoming doctors now due to the costs and risks (malpractice today with anyone leaving a hospital with a cold threatens to sue). This causes malpractice insurance to skyrocket.

People used to donate to hospitals out of good will, giving them money now today, these investors are looking for a return on their investment so hospitals need to be run "for profit" now.

Prescription insurance companies - accountants and financial experts are making medical decisions on whether they feel a patient needs a specific medicine or not (oh, wait, I mean "if it is financially feasible for them - and yes, we've been told that).

Aetna actually backed out of my wife's hip replacement surgery AFTER it was done. They claimed that they decided that she didn't need it. I guess to them walking isn't important to them.

Honestly, the stories I share are very mild compared to what goes on behind the scenes. You say one in five claims are denied - I can easily see that, but what the numbers won't tell you is that the at least three out of the other four are severely underpaid.

I work for a health insurance agency and there is no question that we get more escalated claims issues coming through our door than we used to. Lots of "Procedural" issues etc... Here is a nice heart warming story... http://www.insurance-forums.net/foru...read14841.html
