CNN is reporting that an oil rig about 80 miles off the LA coastline has exploded.

Luckily, all 13 people on the rig are accounted for and only one is injured (no fatalities).

All these years with few issues, non as severe as these yet now we have to rigs explode in the same year? Why do I think it is not a coincidence?

I wonder who owns this one?

Listening to Coast Guard representative give account right now - explosion and the rig is still on fire.

Someone will be working on the statistical chances of this happening, suddenly I can see Homeland Security taking a careful look at these 'accidents'. I guess I was too long in the services, I become suspicious very easily about coincidences.

I wouldn't say these, since this one, so far, they're saying 0 deaths and there wasn't even any product.

Doing a search and as far as oil spills, there are 7 ongoing - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oil_spills and it looks like we get a few every year.

Explosions are another thing. But oil rigs do have issues - http://home.versatel.nl/the_sims/rig/losses.htm

I'm sure all the conspiracy theorists have something new to play with for awhile.

Gotta love these companies.

First - the platform wasn't producing any oil so there was no oil leak.

Now - witnesses see a large oil "sheen" (worded by CNN).

"Nope, there is no oil leak!"
"What's all that black stuff?"
"Um......."
