Obama administration wants to tax cars by the mile

News of the draft follows a March Congressional Budget Office report that supported the idea of taxing drivers based on miles driven.

Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations.

Um, just a question Dmyre, but isn't that the Congressional Budget Office has proposed this as a draft and not Obama. Sorry to want the facts, but I find it so much easier rather than just taking some incorrect post title.

The plan is a part of the administration's Transportation Opportunities Act, an undated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly.

The White House, however, said the bill is only an early draft that was not formally circulated within the administration.

“This is not an administration proposal," White House spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki said. "This is not a bill supported by the administration. This was an early working draft proposal that was never formally circulated within the administration, does not taken into account the advice of the president’s senior advisers, economic team or Cabinet officials, and does not represent the views of the president.”

Sounds to me like someone somewhere had a brainstorming session and asked people to come up with some ideas on how to cut costs, raise revenue, or perhaps dissuade people from driving gas guzzlers. How low down the totem pole this idea came from is only anyone's guess...or conspiracy.

Raider, please, please, oh an almighty please, show me a post of mine when I have called you or any other a racist? I may well think that of the odd member here, and indeed I do think some are bigoted, but please point me to where I have labelled anyone here in print what you accuse me of?

Once again it would seem that not being able to actually debate a point some members want to make false accusations to deflect from the reality of the actual evidence. Oh what a pity that adult conversation should so quickly be marred by such statements made simply to hide the fact that some members are unable to rely on the truth.

We already have such a system - it's called fuel tax - approx 72% of the price of car fuel in the UK is tax. If that's not a tax-per-mile I don't know what is. Drive a lot of miles, you pay a lot of tax; drive a gas-guzzler, you pay a lot of tax.

Seems you have a real problem reading YOUR OWN posts, and a bit of a comprehension problem as well;

Aside from singling yourself out here, You have used the Tea Party reference at least 6 times against Internetster in his Photo thread... your pal Doc has used the tea bagging racist and bigot charge at least a dozen times against myself and many others on this forum. So you and him combined = "We"

If you wish to be schooled again, please let me know

Also, I don't understand what you have against the Tea Party which consists of Democrats, Independents, Republicans and Libertarians alike... Have you ever been to a Tea Party rally? I doubt you have., NO, you would much rather type your ignorance on a domain forum than learn what the party is really about first hand.

As for using the 'Tea Party' as a generic term of derission I will stand by that.

I will be back in a couple of hours and await the 'evidence'.
