Bankruptcy is the ONLY way. That will not mean those automakers cease to exist. That will mean shareholders and creditors will get nothing (minimum - money from liquidation, which will be zero anyway as all money from sold assets will go to pension funds imho) and someone will buy clean assets and continue the production, this time effectively.

Not a bad idea - regulate & tax it like cigarettes and alcohol - our government is sitting on a gold mine - or do you think they make more though fines since it is still illegal?

I do not think we've hit the bottom yet but I think it is not too far off, within 3-5 months. I think my the spring we'll see signs of things starting to improve.

Home sales in south Florida have been (very) slowly rising. Baby boomers are buying retirement homes, younger buyers can afford very nice homes (South Beach is getting a lot of this). If they have the cash on hand for the down payment, then they're set for a great home. Even my sister in law is looking.

George W Bush did not talk for me, did not listen to me, and did not represent me.

He represented his closed inner circle and how he could best benefit himself.

What W. did for me is bankrupt my country, create the highest unemployment in my state since 1983, made my nation the most vile is despised country in the world, slaughter thousands of innocent people in the name of freedom (Oh, Freedom. Thy name is oil), and slaughter thousands of young American lives needlessly fighting a war that was propaganda from day one.

its not about race. I was hoping he would have the grit and intregrity to show a new course. Then he voted for the bailout, another big money grab to push off to their elite rich buddies. The bailout has done nothing to stop the economic carnage, but it will make it worse. In one month we tripled our money supply three fold.

A math buddy told me if you spent 1 million dollars a day since Christ was born you would come to the amount of the first bailout Sept, 08 a total of 748 billion!

Now the morons in Congress are wanting to not stop with $750 billion, now they are talking a trillion or two. If you got cash, you will see it buy much less soon. The new term soon will be cash is trash.

Obama is another Bush, he will not share the wealth. He is robbing from the poor, (average tax payers) and handing it over to the rich, bankers, investment bankers, Wall St elite, and now the auto industry.

How is that robbing from the poor and giving it to the rich?

Just wait a few months until this new money rages thru the economy causing prices to explode. Inflation is what will rob you and I as prices skyrocket and wages do not go up as fast, so we all loose.

The morons are scared and are acting like it.

Printing trillions of dollars is like pouring gasoline on a smoldering fire. That is the only answer our leaders have?. You can only protect yourself as it will get much worse, price controls, food shortages, lawlessness, nationalism of Banks, insurance and credit card companies. Loss of freedoms are assurred when society breaks down. This is an economic breakdown first.


The end result, the dollar collapses.

They have not made a single innovation in years, their cars are woefully inefficient, poorly designed, lack of a LOT of safety features that are mandatory in Europe even as extras, look kinda crap, and are designed to be whole unit throwaways instead of something you can get repaired.
And that's just the cars.
The companies themselves spend almost nothing on R&D, don't bother to give their employees a decent deal, and pay their corporate staff scandalous wages that, in some cases, are up to 400x what the floor staff get paid (and you cannot justify someone, who's job could be done by a Magic 8ball, getting paid four hundred times as much as the people that actually make the cars).

Who, what, when, where do you want to place the blame for the last eight years of the most rapid downward spiral of our economy, our money, our trust, our leadership, our nation, our respect, our loses, our jobless rate, our foreclosure rate, corruption, greed, war crimes, crimes committed at the very pinnacle of the administrative office and the justice department, the loss of not only our own confidence but the confidence of all our global neighbors and leaders in the ability of the US to be a leader.

Basic economics and ecology were sacrificed at the will of the conservative party. Are you aware that during the entire 8 years of this presidency not a single living thing was added to the endangered species list? No flora, no fauna, nothing. We have been taught that the global warming is a hoax, that nothing is wrong with our economy (remember even 2 years ago no one in the administration would mutter the R word? Hell even six months ago!)

Forget recession and inflation. We are so far into both the now we are on the cusp of deflation which is the worst thing that could happen to any country or nation. Not only will money be of little value, goods are soon going to be worthless as stocks remain unsold and continue to stockpile in all the warehouses.

Who do we blame for Katrina, FEMA, no-bids contracts, Iraq, Afghanistan.

All I hear is there has been no attack on the US since 9-11. Lets bring the war to them. They wanted this and welcomed it. It created a whole new generation of Jihadists and terrorists. It became too damn convenient to pick off our citizens in ambushes, attacks, bombings not only in Afganstan and Iraq but across the globe.

Already we have surpassed the total number killed in 9-11 with our own young soldiers lives. And the total dead from 9-11 pales in comparrison to the total dead from all the attacks and slaughter on a global scale.

This is still not the end of the Bush years. We will be feeling it well into the next ten years as the unemployment rate is expected to reach an all time high of 7.5% this time next year (NC just hit 7.9% - highest since 1983), bank failures are not over, and foreclosures in this country will continue to climb tied to the increase unemployment (already 1 in 10 properties in the US is in foreclosures). Repracussions from the grandious ineptitude of the most pitiful excuse of an administration and leadership will continue well into and beyond the next administration.

So who are you to tell a person of another nation, country, or even a concerned citizen when they have every right to speak and describe how this "conservative house" you speak of is the very root of the cause of not only our problems but the global economy as well.

Already I can see the drums beating that I am already making excuses for Obama.

Read my words carefully and make no assumptions of what I am saying. Bush is a war criminal, the war was a war for oil, corruption and greed is rampant and the norm in the Bush closed society, and his justice department has re-written the laws and passed secret buried bills granting Bush unprescidented powers that no other person in history has been granted.

And if the conservation and the moral majority of this country is so right and Bush can do no wrong, then why did he, in late 2005, grant himself and his entire administration a presidential pardon and immunity from all prosecution for any deed, act, or crime committed since 9-11 until the departure from the occupancy of the white house?

That is not a hoax, that is not a fabrication - that is truth.

It is public record and enacted in a law, buried in among bills passed in late 2005 just before the Democrats gained control of congress.

It is time to open your eyes to the realities of life because we have long thought of ourselves as perfect. Yet, you failed to realize that the whole world is watching.
