It really shows how tough a job cops have maintaining the peace and making sound judgement calls while under duress! The punch in the head, not necessary if they where eating less donuts and training better

    Self defense.

Someone was holding the woman in the pink shirt back. She pushed (hit?) him off and then went over to the cop and pushed him (BTW - that's assault and battery on a police officer) and then she raised her arms in a way that looks like a fighting stance.

Edit: It's quick but AFTER she pushed the cop she DID punch him.

Edit2: I lost count at the number of felonies the people there comitted. The cop was hit a few times from the two "women" the guy with the camera accused the officer of "chocking her" (false accusation).

Been a great week for The Darwin Awards™. Let's see, don't attack Israeli commandos with metal bars, don't commit felony assault on a border patrolman with cobblestones, and never ever try to "get up all in yo face" with a police officer making an arrest. Did I leave any out?

The moment she stepped in and assaulted a police officer she got what was coming to her, period.

In fact some cops may have felt like she was going for his gun etc and used more force, she's lucky it was a punch.

As soon as they resisted a uniformed officer's requests and pushed him they deserved what they got. In Canada he would have tasered their asses and if that didn't work it would be truncheon time and deservedly so.

As for age - he has no way of knowing - they were not cooperating with him at all. We also don't get to see what lead to the whole thing in the first place. Were they stealing, fighting, fitting description of a wanted person etc?

He was actually quite kind to them. Why he didn't instantly fling the first one to the ground with some kind of throw and hold is beyond me. That's basic stuff each officer is trained to do. He could have also applied much more pressure to their arms when he had them pushed against the car. A pain-compliance move is what he should have done to quickly dissolve their will to resist.

And what's with the slow backup response time?

I love how people join in the fight but not to help the officer. Why not help the officer and get that person to cooperate for their own benefit. What would better serve the community?

This policeman was unprofessional. Policemen are trained in PPCT (pressure point control techniques) to handle situations such as these. If this policeman has received training in PPCT, he applied his training extremely poorly. There is a spectrum of physical responses that the policeman could have used to handle this situation, starting with verbal commands and moving upwards to joint manipulations or using less-than-lethal weaponry such as pepper spray. The policeman's choice to forgo those options and strike a blow with a closed fist was a very poor decision. Even if the police officer in this case is not charged with a crime, he will be reprimanded by his superiors for his actions, and just as importantly he will lose the respect from his peers.

Above is a quote from Ronald, and this is exactly what I meant in my first post, also did you see the squad arrive and the donut waistline on the boys, they couldn,t run a block without some serious mouth to mouth. The force needs to get trained and get fit!

You need to keep in mind that the officer was surrounded by some hostile individuals, proven by one person placing her hands on the officer. If he had thrown the first girl on the ground, the Officer could have been placed in a vulnerable position, exposing his sidearm. The so called "victims" were the ones being unprofessional/disrespectful.

That cop could not even control, the first girl, nor the second, get back to the base and get some training!

Have you ever worked in law enforcement? If not how would you know? Presume?

I worked three years as a prison guard - women can fight harder and dirtier than men. The officer in the clip could have done many things better but he was justified in using force. They were not complying at all. If they were not complying with force being applied do you actually think they would have listened to him just talk? We all know the answer to that!

Yes I have worked in the field. They teach us not to use force until last resort. What you see in this video obviously shows that the officer did not take the correct steps before acting in such barbaric way.

Actually the video shows no such thing. The video starts after the confrontation had already started. We have no idea why they were being detained, nor do we know what was actually said or done before the video captures the rest.

We can clearly see some of their things or those belonging to someone else on the hood of his cruiser. Something happened for him to have them empty their possessions or have him place those things there for later evidence/inspection.

He probably caught them doing something unlawful or found something on them that placed him in a position of needing them restrained for further searching/questioning. They didn't comply and pushed him as the video does clearly show - at that point there is zero need for him to play patty-cakes with those little darlings. Again if that was the RCMP or OPP etc they would have been on the short end of a taser or truncheon. Same goes for most states in the US. His actions in retrospect to that consideration were actually tame.
