Recently had a municipal election in my area, and got way too many calls.

Regular telemarketing is quite heavily regulated, so why aren't political calls?

I'd tell any call that has a live person on it that just because of this call, I'm not voting for them.

Is an unsolicited call really supposed to make me want to help put that person in power??

I can not how many calls I got.

What I used to do (and still do to an extent in these off year elections) is NOT VOTE for which ever person calls me. More importantly than that, I NOT VOTE for every person who's sign ends up on my property. I own 6.5 acres that front on two busy roads and one major intersection. I guess people have the sense that any vacant land or intersection is free game and they put up signs. They are totally clueless on the infringement of my rights as a land and property owner.

The last election I caught someone campaigning for Sheriff, yes...the actual candidate...pounding in a sign on my property. When I told him to take it down, he said, "Oh, I didn't think anyone owned this land." Bullshit. I told him that every piece of land is "owned" by someone or some entity even if it is owned by the state. Just because he did not see a house right there in that spot does not mean it's un-owned land, free to do with what anyone may choose.

He went on to tell me that the state has xx feet of right away. I told him I was aware of that fact and that is why I allow the state to mow there. But, if he put a sign on my property not of my choosing, it would look like I was endorsing that person and I am not.

I also mentioned that if he wanted to pull the "state right-of-way" BS on me, then I would gather up every sign I find on my property and come to his house and put them in his yard claiming the same statute. He stopped, took up the sign, then went back down to the intersection and took up that sign as well.

    Good for ya!
And yet here we have some anal obsessive character (probably semi-literate) who kills any reasonable thread that's not to his liking.

Was he suggesting that he has the right to put the sign on public property, including the right away? I don't think campaign signs can go on public property either.

Around here, the little 'push into the grass' signs for all kinds of businesses were getting out of control, so they passed a law that works well. A city truck photographs and collects every sign found on public property, and the business in the advertising is sent a bill for (I think) $150 per sign. A few business went on TV to complain about getting bills of $2,000+ for sign removal, and everyone just laughed at them... and the sign problem stopped.

    Apparently, yes...public property.

But the stupidity of putting a sign up on a "vacant" lot (part of my property) was okay and saying, "I didn't know anyone owned it". DOH! Someone, somewhere owns every piece of land.

Yes, signs can go on public property and state owned property around here. They just can not be within xxx feet of a polling place. NC has started a fine per sign (charged to the candidate) if not collected by a certain date. Otherwise, I would have sign on trees and the telephone poll at the intersection until they rotted off.

The only calls I get are from campaigns asking for more money...... I tell them once they improve our economy, I'll be glad to send them more to help kick that bastard out of the oval office.

That's the way to treat someone who could be your local Sheriff, rip him apart. I wonder what kind of response you would get from the Sheriffs office when you have a actual emergency at your home? I could almost guess what they would be thinking on the way to your house; "This is the property of that Liberal a**hole who through a tissy fit when we put election signs on his property, I wonder what he's going to b*tch about now?

You go and get them Doc!.... Your awesome.
