    A rant about Michael Vick

OK, I will grudgingly agree that he did his time, he should be allowed back to work.

My major issue is that Pete Rose, one of the best baseball players of all time, is still banned from baseball (including getting into the hall of fame).

So, major league sports is saying that killing, mutilating, beating, and fighting dogs is less of an issue than betting on your own team to win.

I think betting on your team carries the implication of game/match fixing regardless of how you are betting. so i guess i understand the lifetime ban.

as for vick, its horrible what he did and as an animal lover I am disgusted. but the positive in this is because he is in the spotlight he will more likely contribute a lot to the animal cause and do more good than he did bad with his second chance.

A team needs to sign him and donate 5% of his salary to the humane society, case closed.

Make it 95% and keep him chained to a doghouse except when practicing/playing.

Agreed. It's all or nothing. There should be clearer lines.

pete rose's crime was against the sport itself

micheal vick's crime was against a dog

how much time did pete rose spend in jail?

dogs are cool, but they ain't human

and some humans value these animals more than they do their own kind.

i don't hate dogs, but when you see some people treat dogs better than they would another person.... it makes me sick

especially when there are so many humans in need of healthcare, housing, jobs and food to survive in this world.

mike did his time, paid the fine and shouldn't have to pay another dime of his salary to any dog fund

    imo...

We're not talking about the Black Sox. Pete bet for his team to win so unless the other team(s) was/were willing to throw the game - there isn't much he could do except insist the best from his team - which any manager of any team should expect.

Good call, Rock. The ASPCA (not PETA) would love the money.

The NFL will ultimately have questions to answer to those who want to know why they allowed a convicted felon to play.

Odd that the NFL has such strict drug policies and banishment from the sport but not for those convicted of Federal charges.

Yes, I believe in second chances.

But as I say, it will be the NFL's front office that will have to justify their decision.

when mike gets picked up by an nfl team, you can bet the stands will be full when he plays his first game.

the nfl doesn't have to justify anything, ticket sales will do that.

once a person does his time in jail, they should be allowed to continue on with their lives.
is there a law that say convicted felons can't participate in pro sports?

continuing to hang this cloud over the nfl and mike is very unfair
how long does he have to continue to pay for that crime?

again mike's crime was not about the nfl, so drug policy has nothing to do with this case

I am playing devils advocate here.

Surely there will be a ton of questions launched at the NFL.

Some will compare drug policy (banishment) to murder/manslaughter (stallworth) to dog fighting (convicted of Federal Charges).

Perhaps Vick can pair up with Rae Carruth to form a "deadly duo" when Carruth is finally released from prison.

I could personally care less about Vick (or his brother).

    Wasted talent.
