Thumbs down Republicans take the house

Today's headlines: Republicans take the house. Really? No shit. They've been taking houses for 2 years now at the tune of 2 per minute thanks to their failed and deregulated banking policies under Bush. Way to go america, way to go!

I am not 100% sure but I heard - Deregulation of Banks was inherited by Bush.

Can some one with knowledge comment on this please?

That would be the repeal of a landmark piece of legislation that was created after the great depression called the Glass - Steagall Act . The bill to repeal this historic act was introduced and passed by a Republican controlled house and senate and then signed into law by President Bill Clinton:

The bill that ultimately repealed the Act was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (Republican of Texas) and in the House of Representatives by Jim Leach (R-Iowa) in 1999. The bills were passed by a Republican majority, basically following party lines by a 54–44 vote in the Senate[12] and by a bi-partisan 343–86 vote in the House of Representatives.[13] After passing both the Senate and House the bill was moved to a conference committee to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions. The final bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90–8 (one not voting) and in the House: 362–57 (15 not voting). The legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999.[14]

The banking industry had been seeking the repeal of Glass–Steagall since at least the 1980s. In 1987 the Congressional Research Service prepared a report which explored the cases for and against preserving the Glass–Steagall act.[11]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass%E2%80%93Steagall_Act
Many, myself included, want to see the Glass - Steagall Act reinstated to prevent future melt downs.

I'm just glad the senate stayed with the Dems even though they lost important seats. Both parties have no choice but to work together. Obama can actually benefit from a Republican house majority.

Let's see what the Republicans can do now that they have the house.

51 (as of right now) is barely a majority. With 2 seats that aren't prjected yet that's still 53 at most but you are right - it will force both parties to work together (unless partisanship is more important than doing their jobs).

Yes, they have the choice of NO.

Continued stalemate or deadlock or unwillingness to work together.

If the GOP has any hope of winning in 2012, the nickname of Party of No will come back to haunt them. Any gains seen today will be lost in the 2012 cycle by those who run for re-election.

I'm glad you asked, It appears the OP is suffering from another one of his "ignorance" attacks... Fannie and Freddie Mac played a major role in the collapse of the housing market, which was controlled at the time by 2 key Democrats; Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd.

    Here's some very informative links on Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and how Bush tried to regulate them, only to be stopped by Democrats;

That's exactly what were going to see for the two MORE years, Democrats unwilling to work with Republicans

I think the NEW Party of "NO" will be Obama and the Democrats, I would be VERY surprised if Obama signs one major piece of legislation in the next 2 years... The only thing he'll be signing is Veto's.

And as far as 2012, far MORE Democrats are coming up for Re-election in the Senate than Republicans.... If I had to bet money, Republicans will take control of the Senate, retain control of the House and take the Executive Branch, which will start the process of repairing the damage of 4 years and lead America back to prosperity.

Please vote Republican in 2012, America can not sustain another 4 years
of Liberal policies that are fiscally and socially destroying the country.

IMO, nothings gonna change. The republicans still have zero answers on how to create jobs or balance the budget and they'll continue to fight and block everything. It's politics, corporate greed runs this country not the politicians. Total revolution is in need me thinks. 3rd world countries are laughing at us and pulling away.

Precisely. Amazingly, the Republicans ran on a platform WITH NO SPECIFIC ANSWERS OR SOLUTIONS to anything.

Yes, hand the keys back to the GOP. Problem is, no one has passed the driving test!

Like we've never seen Republicans refusing to work with Democrats?

This is something that BOTH sides are very guilty of and it's the BS that hurts the citizens of the USA - the exact people who put them into their power-tripping position.

Anyone remember a thread I made earlier (last year?) about if you keep going between two medications and neither work - why do you keep going back to them? This is proof that the US voting public has a serious set of blinders on.

Draggar, here's the problem with you offering your political opinions.
As a mod you delete threads & posts that don't sit well with your political agenda.
As a result your opinions are worthless and useless.

That's a very harsh accusation - what thread (or threads) / post(s) did I delete?

Well, the consensus here is that you're the culprit.
But, we all could be wrong. Probably another mod kills all political threads not to his/her liking.
How can we find out who does that?

The only time political threads and get moderated is when they violate the forum rules (insulting, posting personal information, etc.). Yes, it has happened in the past but we just take out the insults leaving the rest of the post. If you want to send me specifics (link to the thread where posts were deleted or about what date a thread was deleted and in which section etc..) I can look into it.

Killing a thread because someone doesn't like it won't do any good, especially in a controversial frorum since the thread either gets recreated or it spills out into other threads.

    Back on topic edit:

Alex Sink (D) conceded so Rick Scott (R) is Florida's next governor.

I'm in one of the only districts in Florida that still has a Democratic representative (Alcee Hastings - I have no complains about him)

Despite Crist starting to make a strong cubmack, Marc Rubio is our next Senator (time to vote out Bill Nelson next time).

Jim Lewis (I) (pro-marijuana candidate for attn, general) got about 4% of the vote - not bad IMO.

Larger student to teacher ratio didn't pass.

    Balenced budget did pass.

Not only do you NOT know wtf your talking about, your posting a complete LIE.

Draggar may of edit comments made that are inappropriate, but to accuse him of editing comments made in the discussion of a thread because he doesn't agree with them? That's a LIE, and I if were the owner of this Forum I'd ban your stupid a*s just making that accusation.

Bah, its all good. The GOP will once again gave some great lip service as "we are your voice".

Watch this...people are concerned about jobs.

BUT, watch what the GOP goes after the very first chance they get - repeal health care (even though it is a done deal) and keep the tax cuts for the wealthy.

I see the new Speaker's orange glow spreading throughout the land...we are your friend, we are your voice, we are the people who will **** you again.

This will be the GOP's agenda and primary goal ... repeal healthcare and extend the tax cuts to the wealthiest.

Not once did you hear anyone talk about specifics...

How are you going to create jobs?
How are you going to correct the unemployment?
What are you going to do about the economy?

Why was their no answer to these specifics? Because the GOP has NO plan at all. Their entire plan and goal (as you have heard for months) is to take back the Senate. That was and is their agenda. That has been their focus. Party, party, party...the Grand Ole' Party first and foremost and above all.

If the GOP was smart (and they are not) they would open up and start working with Obama and the rest of Congress. Otherwise, you are going to see those GOP seats wiped away just like you did in 2006 fall elections and you are going to see Obama re-elected.

I would like to think that people sent these newly elected officials to the seats because they want to see change. I want to believe that the people of the US are not gullable and stupid.

As sure as the sun comes up tomorrow...when fall 2012 rolls around the GOP is going to pay by ONCE MORE giving up any gains they made and losing not only both houses but not having a chance in hell at the presidency as well.

Americans only have two choices, and for a hundred years in the mid terms they think that voting for the other guys will make things better. Good news is Tea baggers will probably be a bigger pain to republicans than they are to the rest of the country.

Too many American voters want a return to the good old days.
Vote for cattle barons who want government out of their way. Pull yourself up by your boot straps, stick a gun on your hip, and let the fastest draw makes the laws.

America had libertarian rule at one time, and even the cattle barons didnt like it.

Isn't it nice to see all the sore losers gathered in one thread?

What these sore losers fail to realize is, this election was clear repudiation of Obama and his reckless policies of the last 2 years.

    Speaking of sore loser;

How can Republicans work with Obama when Obama and Democrats have shut them out for nearly 2 years?...

You would have to be a complete idiot (and you are) to think Obama would be willing to compromise with Republicans, it's just NOT going to happen... Stubborn and pig headed ideologues like Obama NEVER compromise, they look to others to compromise and when they don't, they blame the other party.
