Republicans to use a Dot Mobi to chat about State of the Union Address

Hopefully this won't get too heated as it discusses both politics and the most hotly debated TLD in the domaining world Looks like the National Republican Congressional Committee will be promoting their constituents to participate in a chat about The State of the Union Address via their mobile website NRCC.mobi whereas the White House has opted for an iphone app.

In an attempt to reach the American public via mobile, the National Republican Congressional Committee is Hosting a live text chat during President Obama’s State of the Union address on Jan. 27 and the White House has launched an official iPhone application.

Personally I think the Republicans have the better strategy here.

This is very interesting news, looks like the US government can see that .mobi is the correct tld for the mobile phone.

I think its best to keep an eye on .mobi.

Does anyone know what other tlds that the US gov use (gov.us .com .us) as a comparison?

    Would be interesting to know.

It's 2010 not 2004. Every tld is the correct one for a REAL mobile phone.

It's true any TLD can work. Not everyone will use Dot Mobi especially companies that have put a lot of cash in branding their Dot Com. They can afford to optimize their site for mobile as well as PC. Still no site has to have content that will load well and be easy to navigate on a cell phone. Generally though people using a Mobi address make sure the page is optimized best for a mobile viewing experience. There are no guarantees that any site will perform well even on the newer smart phones but using Dot Mobi suggests that the site will.

Here is a quick challenge. Access DNForum.com from your smartphone. Go to the forums and look around. Then go to Mobility.mobi and do the same. Which one loads faster? Which one is easier to navigate? Which site would you expect to do better from a mobile device based on the name?

The mobile internet is as much in it's infancy as the PC internet was when AOL was what people use to consider the world wide web.....

what do you consider a 'real' mobile phone? i have a blackberry flip and still many sites are unuseable, for example, snapnames. i often check the .mobi first to see if they have a mobile version. snapnames doesn't but other sites that i have checked out in the past octranspo.com has octranspo.mobi. that site has saved me a few times.

    Lordy, lordy. Mercy me.

And everyone still talks about mobi being dead.

Ain't this a kick in the crotch?

haha, probably has a lot to do with the fact that fox uses .mobi ~ some how tied financially with them and now the GOP is doing all they can to support this extension for financial gain.

It's all business and the sheep will follow... anyone holding onto .mobi's ~ will make a little more cash if they sell soon. Good news to .mobi people and funny thing is, most of the conservatives on here are against .mobi....

Apparently if you type .mobi after the .com or any other tld you get directed to the mobile version of that site.
If you search say http://abc.com.mobi from your mobile you are given the choice of mobile version or pc version. Pretty good I would say.
