Here's the deal, from a fiscal and health point of view.
Is drinking Bad for you? Not in moderation
Is smoking cigarettes bad for you? Exceptionally bad due to all the chemicals and additives.
Is smoking pot bad for you? Depends, if you are operating machinery might not be a good thing.
Is smoking pot bad for your lungs? Most likely - but! I don't know anyone that smokes the equivilent of a pack (20 joints) a day. I used to smoke 2-2 1/2 packs. I have known people smoking 3-5 Packs Per Day (PPD)
Would the legalization be a bad thing? No. Liquor was prohibited at one time. The result was a massive crime wave, illegal drink houses, murders by competing gangs, the birth of the mafia in America (not just the Italian Mafia, but the Irish Mafia also). Great stuff for the movies and gangster history of the early 20th century.
Would it be a good fiscal move to decriminalize? Absolutely. Not only from the added state and federal tax revenues but a huge decrease in jailing, trying, convicting, housing, imprisoning tens of thousands of people from simple possession to selling a few ounces.
Second hand smoke? I think it should be criminal for an adult to smoke in the same vehicle with youngun's or in the same room as small children. Again, mom and dad puffing on smokes riding down the road with all the windows up with the kids piled in the car should be a crime. Again, second hand smoke is second hand smoke. If mom and dad smoke a joint a day is one thing. But, if both mom and dad each smoke one to two packs a day, that is 40-80 cigarettes. That is dangerous and can be deadly not to mention setting the kids (and infants) up to many developmental and health problems including childhood asthma.
The border of the US and Mexico is a war zone. Why? Marijuana of course. Cartels fighting to control the flow of illegal drugs in to the US.
Legalization will greatly erode that slaughter happening daily.
Would it stop the flow of harder stuff? Doubtful. Cocaine (and crack made from Cocaine) is still a South America issue. Meth is produced in the houses, back rooms, sheds here on US soil.
Someone has been watching too many reruns of Reefer Madness to think the next step up is the needle or crack. Gateway drug...Nope - that usually comes from teens raiding mom and dates medicine cabinet and prescription drugs. I'd be more worried about drugs your parents have and don't secure.
I can guarantee that more traffic accidents, deaths, and injuries are from drunk drivers, distracted drivers, drivers talking on phones, and texting drivers. Don't you think it is quite absurd to actually have to make a law to outlaw texting while driving? In other words, how and why did such a law come to be. And the cost tied in up in even having to make such a law? Imagine, having to have CONGRESS, not state houses, to make a law outlawing Commercial and Bus drivers from texting and driving. Even train/subway engineers texting while driving?
Point is - stupid people are going to do stupid, idiotic things no matter what. There is a law on the books in Colorado outlawing the use of using condoms as balloons at a children's birthday party. Think about. Why does there have to be such a law? Because someone was stupid enough to do it.
But, it does not matter. We can use the Filipino justice system of throwing the Potheads along with the terrorists into a volcano to burn alive.
As for qaucks and quackery...the posting of lies and spreading of lies is more damaging...and deadly.
Seems the lies posed to a global audience of why Bush felt it was imperative to invade Iraq I think had deadlier results.
Lets get back to the State of the Union thread. We've already have had a few pot threads.
I am more interested in how Raider can still stand by her claims after been proven wrong several times...
Actually, come to think of it...I'm not interest in anything Raider says. Its so predictable.
Hows that First President to do... list coming along? Added more concocted lies and misinformation?
Pretty soon you'll be using a cheat sheet on your palms...
Hell, that was the symbol of 666 on her hand! My goodness, lets post that on the rumor mill!

What do you do all day, besides vegetate in front of the computer trying to win asinine arguments?
Please vote Republican in 2012, America can not sustain another 4 years
of Liberal policies that are fiscally and socially destroying the country..
I have a life, a very good life.
Win asinine arguments? Naw, you make it too easy. It is not an argument when you set yourself up for a fall.
In order to have an argument (or debate?) it usually takes two sides having a well thought out case to make backed by facts.
Sit in front of the computer? Usually I have a couple of computers running at the same time with several screen open. One I use exclusively for my research and class contents.
These long dissertations are no effort at all on my part.
And tearing you apart and your thoughtless, careless, baseless, made up lies and thoughts is all too easy and no effort at all on my part.
You make it so easy.
Look (and listen!) to what was playing on NPR this evening...
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=123571858
More debunking the trash and lies spread by members (ahem, Brainless Raider) on the forum and the GOP in general.
Quite interesting of the number reported to have been prosecuted by the previous administration (and at extraordinary cost!!! - over $2million just to prosecute Jose Padilla!)
And suddenly, people are up in arms that there is a proposal to try some of the detainees in a US court?
And wait until you hear the most absolute ridiculous reason one person was charged as being a "terrorist" by those under the previous administration.
Enjoy!
