Maybe it's just me but I don't have much sympathy for these people that sailed their yacht into an area there were warned in advance to stay away from becuase it had pirates.

Piracy is alive and well today and not just off the Somali coast. A friend of mine who boats to the Bahamas all the time always has at least one loaded AK-47 on his boat. When he sees a boat coming towards him on the radar he gets the guns out. If they're in visual range, he has them in his hand. 99% of the time they turn around and leave when he does that.

While it isn't far fetched to think that it is a large operation (just just random kids on boars) some think it is like a corpporation - people even buying stock in it to fund them and get payouts / dividends on the ransom / $$$ they get.

I've heard rumors that they also have oil tankers, military transport vessels, etc.. being held.

We took half a dozen marines, gave them bad fake tans and bleach blond hair, and yuppie clothes and put them all on a yacht with a dozen XM25's, 10 Predator SRAWs, 2 dozen M249's, 2 dozen Beretta 9mm's, a dozen M240G's, a couple thousand rounds of ammo, night vision goggles and sailed them off the coast of Somalia! how it went down seemed a little strange. pirates fire a rocket at the US ship, then gunfire breaks out on the pirate's yatch, then the hostages are dead when the US boat finally gets close enough. how could they of gotten close with the pirates firing rockets, the US ship never fired back?
