    Unusual health class?

So today my lil sister started school and she called me complaining about how her health class they're making her take care of a fake baby and pretend like she's the mom and stuff with a partner.
The problem is her partner is another female in class. They said it's not enough boys in the class so some females gotta pair up with other females. My sister was upset at this and I told her just do the task and get the credit forget about it.
But as the day went by I was thinking why are they doing this? maybe i'm a little old school and I know these are modern times,But isn't that setting a bad example especially when the students aren't gay? I mean if anything they should make them single moms right? they're are more single moms then lesbian parents out there right?
My sis is a senior in high school but i'm thinking about going with her to the school and complaining about this.My mother is furious but her english is minimal and she won't be able to defend herself as well as I can.
I would like to know how does the public feel about this situation? Is this something that should just be or should I go complain?

Let me know how you feel.

I don't think you should complain. I don't think the school has any bad intentions, just simply compromising with what they have. I remember in high school our girls had to do the same thing and share the baby, because there weren't enough.

I don't think it's that big of a deal and I'm pretty sure that by high school most people are pretty set with their sexual orientation.

Agreed with Rich. If there simply weren't enough boys ot go around, they probably didn't have much of a choice. As long as they're not trying to push a sexual agenda on the kids, I'd let it slide. Interesting idea about single moms though. Maybe they hadn't considered it. Perhaps mention it to them in a non confrontational way, see how they react.

If the school doesn't have enough males to role play with, you cant really blame the school. Now if the school is not giving her a choice in this situation, I can understand you and your sister being upset, nobody wants to feel forced into doing something they don't want to do... Does she have the choice of not participating or bringing in a Male Friend? maybe that's the answer to your problem.

suppose you guys are right maybe i'm over reacting.it just sounded weird.
wouldn't it be better to make it like a single parent scenario? I mean the point of the class is to take care of the child not the couple right? I never had this class so it struck me as weird. And with all this exposure of gays and lesbians I thought this could confuse kids. I'm not homophobic, but it sounded weird. I mainly wanted to go b/c my mom was upset and my sis felt uncomfortable. In new york it's like a fad for teenagers of the same sex to go out I see it all over the place. You should hear the stories my sis tells me.it's crazy! I went to H.S in the 90's and even though I knew it was out there,I never saw gay stuff in school.

I know in our school they didn't have enough babies, so they had to share - that might be the case they're assigning two girls per baby.

Regarding the fad - I don't think there are any more gay people out there than there used to be, it's simply becoming a lot more socially acceptable so a lot more people feel comfortable coming out. In my University we have about 70% girls to 30% guys, and I'd say 20% of the guys are gay.

While on the topic, I can pretty much assure you that homosexuality is almost definitively genetic. A few years back I worked at a Northshore University Healthsystem research institute and my department was solely concentrated on finding the male gay gene. While I was there, I got to interact with thousands of gay guys and became rather comfortable with it, even when they'd hit on me.

The program took a few years and as far as I know, after I left, they did isolate a few genes that are primarily responsible.

So yeah, I don't think your sister is in any danger, and maybe from a societal standpoint it's rather sad, but in our kids' generation being gay will be like having red hair.

That's crazy if true. IMO it's hard for me to believe that's a genetic thing no matter how much research is out there. When we're kids we don't even think about kissing the opposite sex,let alone the same sex. all we care about is playing tag and videogames.it's something that we grow up liking like beer, sports etc. I had a friend who's mother was gay and she used to smoke weed and kiss her girlfriend in front of him and now he's gay and a buddha head. so it's like an exposure thing IMO.

I wouldn't be too upset about it because more than likely as stated above there probably wasn't enough babies to go around. Schools would be worried about getting sued if they were trying to push a sexual preference on a kid.

Its just probably something that needed to be done in order for everyone in the class to participate.

What's so furious about it? You want the health class to let them take care of real babies? The idea here is to let them know they will be responsible for what they do, especially in the senior years, and make them learn what is the right decision to make. I think it will have a reverse effect if the pair consists of one female and another male. They would easily misinterpret the source, and possibly, lead to a faster urge for parenting and immature sexual intercourse.
