Psst - global warming can cause extreme temperatures on both ends of the scale, not just warmer. global warming can cause much harsher winters which in return, if bad enough, can trigger a mini ice age.

OK, I'm sure you know about ocean currents, right? If not, here's a little article about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_current

Now, as global temperatures rise (air and sea) it can have serious effects on the ocean currents. If the water can't cool down fast enough then it won't lower to the depths to allow it to flow back to the other end of the current. The reason why western Europe seems so warm as opposed to places like New England, and Canada (which are close to the same latitude) is because of one such ocean current You'll see in the picture in the article I linked that a warm current even goes above Scandinavia.

These currents bring warm water (and warm air with it) to western Europe. If the slow down then the water will cool down long before it gets there and if the currents stop then there won't be any warm water travelling into that area.

Without that current then winters in Europe can be much harsher. This means more and longer lasting snow.

Now anyone can easily say "well yeah, more snow means more cold" but most people don't think of one thing - if the winters are really severe and the snow covers a large enough area it can reflect enough of the suns light (do you agree that something white and shiny like snow will reflect more sunlight than something that is dark and dull like grass and dirt?). The more sunlight that is reflected the lower global temperatures get.

Now, say global warming didn't trigger the ocean currents to slow down but was able to keep getting warmer there is another, much bigger, risk yet the chances of this are very slim. At the bottom of the ocean in many places (and the largest off the eastern US coast) is large methane deposits. This methane stays there because of the very cold temperatures and pressure. It needs both to stay this way. If global warming is able to warm up the oceans, even at the ocean floor (again, highly unlikely but still possible) then it is possible that these methane deposits could rupture and travel up tot he surface and into Earth's atmosphere. Not only would it completely screw up the atmosphere but once there was a spark (lightning or it hits a volcanic eruption) it could ignite causing an explosion the size that we've never seen nor could we fathom. This explosion could send debris into the atmosphere blocking out the sun's rays for years thus plunging the earth into a major ice age. Again, this scenario is extremely unlikely but still possible.

Of course, it's also been theorized that the melting ice in volcanic hot spots has put less pressure on volcanoes and lava domes allowing them to erupt easier (as I said, it's been THEORIZED - look that up if you don't know the meaning). The more volcanic eruptions the more dust in the air. The more dust inn the air the less sunlight getting in and we've seen what can happen then as mentioned in the previous paragraph. Again, this has been THEORIZED. If you don't believe volcanoes can have this effect on our planet, when Krakatoa erupted in the 1883 lowered global temperatures as much as 1.2 degrees Celsius (2.2 degrees Fahrenheit). If you don't think that is a big deal, during the last major ice age global temperatures were only 5-7 degrees (F) lower than they are today yet New York City (well, the land the city occupies now) was under dozens (if not hundreds) of feet of ice.

Edit: On a side note, global warming is great for us humans. We have the technology to circumvent any drought and imagine having much longer growing seasons in the world's breadbaskets and areas that were too cold for agriculture now able to grow crops. It's the cooling we need to worry about.

Do you ever wonder why real journalists like Tom Brokaw of NBC never appear on shows with Chris Mathews, Rachel Maddow or Kieth Olbermanm? Dark colors absorb the heat from the sun, it does not heat the air. White colors reflect the heat and heat the atmosphere, warming up the air not the ground.

Shine a large heat lamp on a dark rock and one on a large pile of snow. Tell me which one it would be warmer near after a few hours (and the lamp was turned off).

Heat radiates so if something is absorbing the heat it will radiate the heat into the air around it. If the light is being reflected then not much is being absorbed and less will be radiated into heat.

White sand will reflect the sunlight and not absorb it. The reaosn it is so hot is because most deserts deal with direct sunlight most of the year and little rain and clouds to cool it off during the day. There are also few trees and rivers (and other sources of water) to help cool down the desert. The cloudless nights lets the warm air rise up and allow the cooler air to stay near the ground.

Salt water sinks and with fresh water deluting the salt water it does not sink, thats why it is getting cooler in Europe, too much fresh water going in to the current and distorts the flow.

Yes, that is another cause which will give the same results. If you're still denying that "global warming" can cause cooling, where is the fresh water coming from? If it's not from global warming then it is not from melting icecaps.

Mr. Hansen of NASA derived at this conclusion shortly after depositing a $720,000 check from George Sorros into his bank account.

The Investors Business Daily started that lie about Hanson back in 2007...thats when I canceled my subscription to their lies.

The truth is the government tried to muzzle Hanson from telling the truth about Globalwarming and he protested.

James E. Hansen, the director the Goddard Institute for Space Studies at NASA, protested attempts to silence him after officials at NASA ordered him to refer press inquiries to the public affairs office and required the presence of a public affairs representative at any interview.

The Government Accountability Project, a whistleblower protection organization and OSI grantee, came to Hansen's defense by providing legal and media advice. The campaign on Hansen's resulted in a decision by NASA revisit its media policy. ...
The Strategic Opportunities Fund includes grants related to Hurricane Katrina ($1,652,841); media policy ($1,060,000); and politicization of science ($720,000).

So the OSI didn't give Hansen any money at all. They did give money to the Government Accountability Project, "the nation's leading whistleblower protection organization", who provided legal advice for Hansen, and a detailed report. And the $720,000 is the total of grants to defend against the politicization of science, not the amount of money given to GAP.

The IBD has declared George Soros a "threat to democracy" because he helps defend whistleblowers.
