Utah government falls for the oldest one in the book..

    http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_11691598

The Utah government is officially the first government to be scammed by a Nigerian based scam. What, did they think that there was a former king of Utah?

I am not sure if this should go here or in humor (I guess it's only humorous if you don't live in Utah?).

If you send invoices to large companies for a reasonable amount with a reasonable explanation, they'll often pay them out.
I've accidentally double billed in the past and gotten the money twice over on consult jobs. I only gave the money back because it was the right thing to do (regardless of the amount I'm sure they bilk other people out of).

    Sure.
Did a consult a while back for a start up mobile company that was underwritten by a larger provider. Basically they were trying to make out like they were this hip start up, as opposed to yet another chunk of a massive communications company trying to co-opt yet another market segment.

Anyway, they wanted some advice on affiliate marketing. A friend of mine that did graphics for them mentioned me. I did the consult (sweet gig, $150/hr for a day and a half heheh). Anyway, writing up a couple of invoices at the end of the week, hit print, didn't notice I'd done it twice. Out come all the invoices, out come all the envelopes nicely addressed (seriously, two tray printers are AWESOME! Bless the person that thought of mail merging, and I just stuff them all and stick stamps on and chuck them in the nearest post box.

One business emails me saying that I'd send out two copies of the invoice. I apologise and tell them that obviously they only have to pay it once, as both invoices had the same invoice ID#. In the meantime, Soul has taken the EFT option, and deposited the money into my account. Twice.

I figured, seeing as it's technically theft, I better give it back.
