    Wake up america!!!

    Seriously, WAKE THE &&&& UP.

    "A house divided against itself cannot stand". Lincoln's speech (June 16, 1858) was initally about how a divided United States (as diplomacy between the north and the south were getting more and more strained every day) was and how the nation would not be able to stand on it's on as it was before (think about it - before the Civil War the world said "The United States are" and after the world said "The United States is"). This part of the speech holds true even today.

    Our house IS divided but not north vs. south. It is divided in many ways and the largest way is political affiliation. We see it every day. Republicans refusing to sign onto a Democrat bill and Democrats refusing to sign a Republican bill. We see it with citizens, too. Republicans blaming Democrats for everything and Democrats blaming everything on Republicans. Seriously? Are we that uneducated, immature, and ignorant that we just want to point fingers and shout accusations? Our country was such a leader for so many years and now it's pathetic, we've regressed to elementary school children.

    Clearly the problems are not caused by Republicans OR Democrats, they are being caused by Republicans AND Democrats. I'm sure the benefactors from all this squabbling love this. People are too busy lining up like lemmings to point fingers at each other that we don't even notice where the real problems are. We all know how magicians do their tricks, they wave their hands and wand to distract us from where the action is going in - this is true with politics.

    No wonder the USA is falling behind scientifically, economically, and culturally.

    Why not do ourselves a favor? We have an election coming up next year. RESEARCH your so-called representatives and senators. See how they've voted in the past and if you don't like it - VOTE SOMEONE ELSE IN. Research candidates, see what they've done - and not just in offic,e what have they done out of office? Have they volunteered at organizations you feel are important? Have they stepped up to the plate when someone was needed?

    Ed, I take it your not for states rights??? Lincoln was warmonger who's so called "civil war" resulted in the death's of at least 600k American lives. He murdered, raped and pillaged the South. He did not believe in government that was very limited in scope and highly decentralized as the founders did but wanted to change it into a highly centralized, activist state. Union soldiers did not die for the cause of ending slavery but for the dubious agenda of sacrificing the independence of the states to the supremacy of the federal government, which has had a disastrous affect on are republic to this very day.

    Where did I say the civil war was about slavery? I didn't and go back and read my post (since you didn't read it). The first mention of slavery was in your post. Slavery wasn't an issue until AFTER the civil war and even then the only "freed" slaves were mostly from union states. It was about whether or not the government would tolerate states leaving on their own as they felt fit to.

    I also only used a quote of his which is very true today, the USA is very split other than that I didn't say anything about Lincoln. Also, shattered is a more accurate term to use how the USA is today. We have people all fighting over everything you can imagine.

    My message, since you missed it, was for people to wake up and actually try to educate themselves instead of voting the same people in office every term (yeah, they might have different names but they're all pretty much the same people).

    I read your whole post but when anyone mentions Abraham Lincoln in a positive light my blood boils. I can't stand the man or what he truly stood for. He is one of the reasons for the problems we have today. He paved the way for a centralized activist bloated federal government where all the politicians rape the republic for their own personal benefit. Your right party affiliation doesn't matter anymore and its the reason I have never been a registered Republican (surprise!!!).

    Oh and one other thing I never said you, Ed Draggar believed the civil war was about slavery. I only mentioned the slavery issue as it relates to Lincoln and of course Lincoln's legacy very much relates to the problems we face as a nation today.
