I do not think anyone will ever question the power of social networking, mobile connectivity, wireless, and the freedom of the internet.
Well, yes...they will question. Human nature.
spot on
even a monster site like break.com which although not a unique idea, they are faster growing in U.S than twitter i believe
although site unremarkable they capture the golden male 15 - 40 demographic
see at top of their page the links to other sites like chickopedia
now check all the alexas for them
those sites would not do a nano percentage of what their doing without the host behemoth
its the way to go
on the other extreme, remember when rick sold ireport, had no real traffic, alexa etc
obviously with the new owners and some promotion on other sites and telly got like top 10k in weeks, and the rest is history
we cant do what they did, but can grow our userbase
personally i think google adsense is a false economy, for the peanuts you get. companies always come to you when you get top rankings or really targetted traffic or just shedloads of traffic. one or 2 companies sponsoring is better and then you can budget for year
plus google are thieves. all you need is no privacy page or terms or whatever on one site and they can withold/steal payment.
screw google adsesnse
anyway i think we should get back on topic
i saw an amazing vid on youtube other day of protests in iran. they were peacefully protesting and a mob of motorbike riding thugs and police, came along beating and disrupting
after many beatings to crowd, a bike crashed and 2 individuals were beaten. the crowd grabbed one guy and saved him and stopped a few getting their own back. they protected and saved him
it was amazing, i'll try and find link
thats the one
i too thought that, but one thing thinking and another doing. we thought it but prob would not have in us, like them
also they have draconian laws. they still hang.......... and children too. in fact they hang more children than anyone in world. just typing that makes me want to go to bathroom and be physically sick, i can tell you
so, you can guess what would happen to anyone identified as beating a government bully boy or cop
they have a very educated population too. those people are business owners, students, families etc. not a hired mob
a simple act of compassion like that to a guy that is a hired hand sometimes can be a spark in itself. if he doesnt reflect leter on what happened and how the mass of people are good decent people , and questions what he's doing, then something is up
on a sidenote , the freedom of info we enjoy and that they enjoy, ie. using youtube etc is all well and good, when they can access, as media banned etc. but the government agencies will be checking these vids too. and isolating individuals and rounding them up when/if protests stop
you can only imagine what will happen to some people
virtually no chance of getting anything reported to main world either. its only the bravest people like amnesty international and oxfam etc who can try and weasel out facts and get it 'out there'
From CNN.com:
It's scary that it's come to this - they have some interesting pictures on their site.A 19-year-old woman who was wounded by Iranian paramilitary forces with clubs escaped with her camera and shared her photos with CNN -- after tricking a paramilitary soldier into thinking she had given him the images on a disk.
Edit: Some of the news coming out are definately echoing the beginning of Tianamen square.

As mentioned, one woman reported that any one with a camera was a target of the police and their thugs.
Soon, I would imagine anyone displaying a mobile phone will be the target as there are many that take pics and videos as well as text.
This is truly events being reported and broadcast by people living it. A whole new media.
Some powerful stuff.
What a sad sad world![]()
It is what it is. There isn't much we can do about but show are support for the protesters. It will take a armed revolution to get rid of the Ayatollahs. Throwing rocks doesn't cut it.
Looks like it's working for this crowd
http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/iran/20..._clashes.shtml
I am hoping it will come to a point that the police and military forces will be so overwhelmed by the numbers of protesters that the young men of the police and military will shed their clothes and join the throngs rather than fire upon them.

I feel sorry for the policemen there. While the politicians who are the ones making all the statements, demands, complaints, and recommendations, the policemen are the one at the front lines throwing teargas at, and having rocks thrown at them by, their neighbors, friends, and people they see every day. They are there trying to do their jobs (and to follow orders).
THEY are the ones in the most danger right now. You see in JMJ's video - it's a handful of policemen vs. several hundred to several thousand protesters. (Of course, you can see this in any country).
As for what Doc said - who knows what will happen to them for "deserting" their posts.

http://www.france24.com/en/20090622-...n-presidentialGuardian Council admits discrepancies in presidential vote
Monday 22 June 2009
Iran's Guardian Council says that the number of votes counted in the disputed June 12 election that handed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a second term exceeded the number of eligible voters in 50 of 366 electoral districts.
Figures. Lots of news stories being linked to on the BBC website saying that hundreds have been 'arrested' after the protests, etc.
And *not* for the faint of hearted (seriously) but there's this:

Echoing Tienanmen Square more and more :(
I've seen that story, Tristian - it is sad (and clearly being used as propaganda for anti-government / pro protesters).
Many videos being leaked onto the internet show people being shot and beaten (beaten on both sides - protesters and police).

Well, just thought I might check to see if Neda Soltani dotcom/net/org might still be around.. Of course I knew better. I see they're parked. Would be nice if whoever got them would do something beneficial with them.
