    What's with all the closures?

What's with all the closed threads? This isn't NP - what's next, deleting individual posts?

This is the Politics/Controversial section where people come to vent or get riled. No-one's forced to get involved, everyone who contributes or even just reads, does so through their own free will, and at times it's the busiest forum on DNF.

Either get rid of the section or leave it alone. We're all grown ups and so far as I can see, nobody takes stuff too much to heart.

The reason why NP turned to sh it was because of Mod intervention - please don't let this place go the same way - DNF is where grown ups come to trade and occasionally like to discuss other things with the people we do business with. On the whole this place is run beautifully, but if things can't get a little heated in this section once in a while, where's it going to lead...?

I agree James. In fact I did vent my spleen regarding the Obama thread that was closed - then that thread turned into a pissing match, but who cares? To be fair; Don, who always has my greatest respect, did make a reasoned comment, but I think it's a case of "if you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen". Unless of course it's a situation where DNF could/might be held accountable for publishing libel. I hardly think so though. Easiest way is to register focusandraider.com, chuck up a PHPbb, and take it all off here

if the statements which i extracted from your post were true, then the threads could probably run their course

but even if someone is legally grown, doesn't mean they will act accordingly

some people throw stuff in the mix, just to disrupt the flow of the conversation, while others try to read thru, over or pass the rude comments, hoping the intent of the thread will survive.

some can't hold an intelligent, logical conversation without resulting in bashing, because they loose "focus" or can't "focus" on the right words to respond with, so they spew insults to keep the "focus" on them.

My personal opinion (only) is to cut the Forum "Politics" from DNForum. I believe this is a forum for domainers and to promote the sales of domain names.

As most of the forum members here know Political discussions should be left on forums (or pubs) that are created specifically for the topic.

Just imagine that you are a prospective buyer for a name and you come to this forum for information or available names and you happen across the political forum and read some of the most trash exchanging you have seen anywhere. I am quite sure that this possible buyer would exit pretty quickly and look elsewhere to find more professional sellers.

Also I strongly believe that these political threads cause turmoil among the members, then sides are chosen, then the forum is divided,, then the forum closes.

These are only my opinions but they are based on fact & experience.

Let's keep DNForum a top destination and a place to do the business it was created for.

While I would agree with this and it sounds like a great idea on paper, the discussions in the political forum would wash over into the gold forum (and elsewhere).

At least we can (attempt to) contain it in one subforum so people can go into there or avoid it if they want to.

    - We do not want to close the thread and we don't care about your discussion or debate as long as you respect the rules.
    - We have to close the thread when you start name calling, personal attack, foul languages or start your own personal love story (you can give each other phone number and talk on the phone). We want to protect our members and it is not fair for members to read your trashed posts.
    - We do what we believe will benefit our members here, we do not care about what other forums are doing.
    - To be fair to Mods and the staff, we do not have the time to read every post and trying to figure who is right or wrong. We moderate the forums and not running a day care center.

For some of you if you can't stay the heat then get out of the kitchen.

    Happy posting!

the name calling and attack posts should be closed...

but what if the thread is okay and only ruined by one or two posts?

in theory...all a person has to do to get a good/intriguing/stimulating/controversial thread closed is to call someone a name or dish a cheap shot below the belt..

    always a loophole somewhere....

DNF isn't just a place to trade - it's also a place where domainers hang out. When I've had jobs and businesses where I employed or worked with other people, we didn't just talk about work - we discussed all sorts of stuff; this forum isn't any different.

If the only reason to visit DNF was to trade, it would be a sterile environment, and hence, the number of visits and visitors would be reduced leading to a decline in the number of trades that happen.

Anyway - thanks to Don and Johnn for their reasoned, responses.

    Hi

I posted this previously in the other thread Azooza started about the original Political thread being closed:

when you have members who report these threads, then it's possible they will get closed.

who really wants to moderate a Political thread?

the best one can do is "ask" for each poster to be polite, but ---

it's up to the people who post there to be mindful of others opinions, while trying to get your point across as well...without being disrespectful.

and since no one wants to go back and read thru every post to try and "put the comment in the context at which it was stated"....then it just gets closed.

    why?

    because it's easier

you got some tough skins and some thin one's, and both of these types want to play ball on the same field at the same time.

good political discussions can be healthy, but they won't last unless you can be civil

    I have a solution......

Set up the forum so that the political section does not appear in the search results/unread posts section. DS does this so I'm thinking it wouldn't be to hard for DNF. The benefits are obvious.

Anybody on broad with this idea?
