Definitions provided by Dictionary.com:
Communism:
While many properties (as in real estate) are becoming properties of the banks (due to foreclosures) this may be a far stretch from reality but not really. Most of our large purchases, homes, cars, boats, etc.. are owned by the banks though secured loans and are not truly "ours" until the loans are paid off ana the deeds are transferred to us. This is a capitalist government (which our country has been for an EXTREMELY long time).1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
2. (often initial capital letter) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
3. (initial capital letter) the principles and practices of the Communist party.
- A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members.
- Communism
- A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.
- The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat.
Marx and Lennin took communism one step further and made the entire nation a commune:
They turned the entire Russian "republic" into a giant commune. All of the people working to strive for the benefit of the nation and/or its leaders - all dictated by the leaders. The main differences between this and a capitalist society is that in a capitalist society the individuals are allowed to pursue their own advances and work to better themselves, not the country.1. a small group of persons living together, sharing possessions, work, income, etc., and often pursuing unconventional lifestyles.
2. a close-knit community of people who share common interests.
3. the smallest administrative division in France, Italy, Switzerland, etc., governed by a mayor assisted by a municipal council.
4. a similar division in some other country.
5. any community organized for the protection and promotion of local interests, and subordinate to the state.
6. the government or citizens of a commune.
When you think about it - most "colony" style insects (ants, bees etc..) are a perfect example of a commune / communism. They all work to benefit their colony and the queen. The main disadvantage is that the average individual is reduced to a mindless and order-following drone (which is very common in modern capitalism).
Socialism:
In a true socialist economy (and I've known people who lived in these) the government dictates aspects from production to prices of needs. The government will say "a gallon of milk now costs $x.xx" so that suppliers can meet their needs yet doesn't allow for greed to take over production and pricing - much like it can (and does) in a capitalist economy.1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
- Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
- The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved.
In all honesty, I'm tired of hearing people call the US's government "communist" and "socialist" since most people don't even know what those words mean - when in reality BOTH have similarities to our capitalist government. the big advantage in our republic style of government - we are allowed to vote people in and out - even people not on the ballots as long as they meet the criteria.
The sad part is that many US citizens just vote based on the blue "R" or the red "D" that their candidate waves around. I'd say less than 2% actually looks at the other candidates who are on the ballots - even the big supporters. What the average US citizen needs to do is to SIT DOWN and do some research on the candidates for president, their governor, as well as their state and local representatives and senators. (How many people can actually name their senators? You do realize that congress has MORE power than the president - right??).
People need to wake up and realize that the BS in the US government won't change - large corporations give HUGE amounts of money towards campaigns just for kickbacks - either in "bailouts", contracts, or laws that benefit them - unless the people who actually put these people in power change their way of thinking (well, actually START to think).

Dude, I mean...come on!
Enough is enough.
There is a black man in a white house, a posse with guns, swing set in the yard, a mother in law that lives with him, and in DC.
We call that government subsidized housing - aka, the projects.

I thought it was humor.
As for the rest of your post...have you forgotten we are just 9 months out in 2009? And you and others want to pretend that the dismantling of our nation did not happen? Are you that foolish?
I could give a rat's ass who was in office then or who is in office now. I will not pretend that this nation was and is bankrupted, that this nation waged war on a nation and its people that was no threat to us, and that they facilitated the theft of trillions of dollars into the pockets of the good ol boy system.
There is a name attached to those crimes and felonies and crimes against humanity. We, as a nation, have a history of going into other countries and extracting those people who have done the same thing that our leader - yes, yours and mine - did to this country and other nations.
He is a criminal. Plain and simple. Not only am I saying it, he gave his staff and himself a presidential pardon - pardoning all involved with illegal activities since 9/11 - that pardon was buried in a bill passed by Congress.

Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 (H.R. 2863, Title X)
Published December 30, 2005
The Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 is part of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2006 (Title X, H.R. 2863). It prohibits the “cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment” of detainees and provides for “uniform standards” for interrogation. The Act also removed the federal courts’ jurisdiction over detainees wishing to challenge the legality of their detention, stating that “no court, justice or judge shall have jurisdiction to hear or consider” applications on behalf of Guantanamo detainees.

Once more...you missed it.
Was this the part where you once again you close both your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears, and turn off you brain and sing at the top of your capability,

Your rights?
Damn, where you been boy? You have no rights and no freedoms. Don't you remember that anything can be done to you, your phones, your house, your personal life, your professional life, the words you say, the words you write, the people you associate with? All has been voided and made possible with the creation of Homeland Security.
Don't get me wrong. The concept of homeland security is superb and wonderful. But I am not sure I want to trust someone who admits to illegal wiretapping and tells me to go out and by plastic sheathing and duck tape in case of a nuclear dirty bomb or chemical attack.
Hell, having plastic and duct tape on hand just saves them on body bags. Just wrap in up in a sheet of plastic and seal it with duct tape and dump their ass in a massive mass grave.
And you thought it was to cover your windows...
Is that the best you can do? Copying me and offering advice I doled out to your cohorts???
Didn't realize I had such influence over you.
Then again, you have a proven history to be so damn gullible to what anyone says or tells you want to do. Your anus sphincter must be sore by now with that right wing arm run up there and moving your lips just as a ventriloquist dummy for the past several years.
Geez, the pain you must have endured and continues...
haha

Don't be a sheep. The buzzword "socialism" is being used to pull the wool over your eyes. Lets not usher in a new era of McCarthyism, please.
Name one year in Bush's eight years where he had a budget surplus and not a record setting budget deficit. Please go ahead and try.
Name any president that had a budget surplus for any year in their administration in the last 40 years. I'll give you a hint. There has only been one and it was Clinton. In fact he had budget surpluses his last three years in office.
You do understand that the past is the reason why we are in the trouble in the present right?
I only hear a scant few Republicans admitting Bush was no conservative. He wasted America's financial capital by giving tax cuts to the ultra rich while cutting social programs, ignoring America's infrastructure, racking up record setting budget deficits , overseeing the deregulation of the banking industry that lead to the crash, and squandering the good name of America around the world by insulting everyone that didn't agree with him and his policies.
So now Obama has to clean up after Bush and try to keep America afloat. Do you really think he wanted to walk into the mess Bush left and have to use a stimulus package to pump money into the economy so it wouldn't collapse? Don't you think Bush had a super starting point economically with Clinton running budget SURPLUSES and bringing the deficit down by almost a half trillion dollars before leaving office?
It wouldn't matter who took over after Bush. The fact is they'd have to make tough choices in order to keep the American and world economies from collapsing. I hope you aren't such a staunch right winger that like Rush Limbaugh you want America and Obama to fail just because he isn't your choice to get us out of this quagmire Bush left us.....
Profoundly influenced by #Bauhaus, @Nameslave unrepentantly embraces #Minimalism in his #multimedia portfolio. His early works include an experimental adaptation of Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard inspired at least partly by Robert Fripp. His totally irrelevant M.Ed. dissertation examines Organizational Culture and Change Management.

The year was 2000. Rather than shore up Medicaid or pay down the national debt, Bush thought it was best to give us all back $600 bucks.
Then, when he had no money to give, he decided to do it again, this time $800 person.
Ah yes, what a hell of an economic stimulus plan that was.
