Why is Google ignoring Memorial Day?
http://www.google.com/
No logos flags etc.
Strange....or is this some sort of political statement?
Peace,
Dan
But...it still is "BS"
BTW: Does anyone know if they had something up for "cinco de mayo"?
Peace,
Dan
Good question. They seem to support "trendy" nonsense like Earth Day (give me a break!), but not the important, meaningful holidays.
They have grown big now. They don't need those little things to hold on to people.
Time to dump Google.
Maybe their logo guy didn't come to work today![]()
I see whoever owns BoycottGoogle.com has it for sale but you have to email him for a price. I wouldn't mind owning it just for the "piss em off" factor![]()
HighPriceDomains.com ! The World's most Expensive domain names
It is not an international holiday
No commercial mileage?
I think aZooZa is right on this.
My traffic is usually down for Memorial day and 4th of July.
It should be, everyone should go out and have some fun on such a nice day!
I'm enjoying a drink in the shade right now. Very relaxing.

My stats are up though.
Guys they do still run their own business.. if they want to change based on some holidays and not others its their choice.
I really dont see why people get so angry when things like this happen, not going out of your way to promote / honour something doesn't mean they are trying to put it down.
Google is a US based company that trades on the US stock market and reaps the many benifits that this county affords it. One being...the men and women that have been killed or wounded for our country for the last 250+ years...so Google can be Google. It is not an international holiday
They did something for "Halloween" for Gods sake.
Maybe we will just have to wait for holidays like: Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. for them to change the logo.
Peace,
Dan
BTW: Less we forget that "stupid" April Fools Day thing they put up...LOL

WTF, they're game for Edvard Munch's Birthday on December 12, 2006, but not memorial day? I guess when the dead can click their ppc ads, we'll see them honor our holiday. Greedy bastards.

Google: Veterans Day
'too solemn' for logo
Top search engine explains holiday
ignored for 8 years out of 'reverence'

In response to e-mail generated by a WND story noting Google didn't mark Veterans Day for an eighth straight year, the search engine giant created a form letter explaining the non-commemoration of the holiday was deliberate and out of reverence.
"Thank you for your note," read the form response. "We understand your concern and interest in seeing a Veteran's (sic) Day Google logo. If we were to commemorate this holiday, we'd want to express reverence; however, as Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design. We wouldn't want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way."
Despite the claim, Google for Canada honored Remembrance Day, the Canadian version of the U.S. Veterans Day last Saturday with a stylized logo featuring three poppies.
Poppies became associated with Remembrance Day because of the poem written by Canadian physician and Lt. Col. John McCrae in 1915, "In Flanders Fields."
It begins:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
As WND reported, Google marks special occasions including Halloween, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's birthday, the Persian New Year, the birthday of Percival Lowell, the Lunar New Year, the 250th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Louis Braille's birthday – all celebrated already this year with special graphics and colors.
But for the 8th year in a row, Google has made no effort to commemorate any holiday honoring U.S. veterans or war dead – no tributes to Veterans Day or Memorial Day.
Google's holiday signature is a dressed-up corporate logo for major holidays and lesser-known occasions alike. Besides overlooking Veterans Day and Memorial Day since the company's inception in 1999, it has also ignored Christmas and Easter.
Google has been criticized for its one-sided political contributions and content policies:
* Rejecting an ad for a book critical of Bill and Hillary Clinton while continuing to accept anti-Bush themes
* Rejecting ads critical of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., while continuing to run attack ads against besieged House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.
* Allowing the communist Chinese government to have the search engine block "objectionable" search terms such as "democracy."
In addition, the company came under fire for an editorial decision giving preferential placement to large, elite media outlets such as CNN and the BBC over independent news sources, such as WND, even if they are more recent, pertinent and exhaustive in their coverage.
As WND reported, 98 percent of all political donations by Google employees went to support Democrats, and as a matter of fact, Al Gore is now a senior adviser to Google.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt gave the maximum legal limit of donations to Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry and to primary candidate Howard Dean.
Schmidt also contributed the maximum amount to Sen. Clinton.
__________
"out of 'reverence"...What a "crock"...just to hard for them to put a simple American Flag in the logo.
Peace,
Dan

yes it is a public company owned by shareholders.. but it is managed by the management who have the ultimate say over such issues.
Guys i'm not trying to diminish the importance of the holiday.. i'm simply saying every website has their own decision to make.. they made theirs..
Hope you all had a nice holiday.. over here its called Anzac day and we had it a month or so ago.. i went to the march in the city along with about 100,000 others in my city with my grandpa who was in ww2 so i know all about what it means to honour those who have fallen.
Don't think i'm being disrespectful with any of comments i'm simply trying to remind everybody that they do have a choice to make.. did everybody else on here change their websites for the holiday?...If not, why?..
They are a Global company with millions of users from other countries other than the US.
They must get way more visits from europe and asia than the us, so adding memorial day would not interest the rest of the world at all. Also another reason that comes to mind is political....memorial day celebrates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country whilst fighting against other countries..maybe they dont wanna use that approach and alienate those countries.
As for haloween i dont know why they did. for april fools..well thats an international day.
They are Google, they can do whatever they like
