fiction can become reality, so reading it can prepare you for the future.....to some extent
take the movie, 'the matrix' for instance
the premise is everyone is plugged-in to it
now think of today
there are tons of plug-in's for sites, devices and even hybrid plugins
how soon before you actually plug a cord or device into your body to upload or download?
in ain't that far fetched where everyone wants to escape reality for virtual, to go viral
ever read a book about a time when there were no books?
check out the new kindle, or the ereader

No need to get a kindle if you have a smart phone, ipad, or android tablet.
Kindle has apps for iPad, iPhone, iPod, smartphones and other tablets running Android.
Something I like about it is no matter which device you use, it keeps track of which page you were on.
So if I read on the phone and then latter pick up a tablet, it will open up to the last page I was on. Very, very cool.
As for the kindle itself, the price now is less than half of what it came out at. Even amazon realizes the market for the actual product has diminished with the release of the apps.
On the other hand, you have companies like Apple that believes it should get a percentage of the sales from amazon simply because it provides access to their market.
Yeah, I know, but I got it for $30, too good of a deal to pass up. But I do like the "lighting" a lot better on the kindle than looking at a bright screen on the ipad and/or on my android, especially when I am reading before bed. I think some of the members on here's heads will assplode if they saw the books I am reading. LOL.
Howard Zinn and a little Noam Chomsky ^_^... but I am reading some Jeff Lindsay right now, the Dexter series... I love these books and I read fiction because it's interesting and some of it, like the Dexter series, is very possible of happening in real life, that is the type of fiction I prefer.
Before you buy books (especially the classics and reference books), you need to check out these sites for tens of thousands of FREE books.

You will, eventually.
When newspapers continue to stop printing papers and put them online instead and books start going digital only then there will be little options.
Widespread adoption of the above is perhaps 5 years away but at the speed of technology and usage - it might actually be 2.5-3 years.
The only bound books I am buying are reference books.
I view print media like a cd - once a great technology and replaced all music purchases...I can not remember the last time I purchased an actual cd. All my music is downloaded. In fact, I am upload all my cd collection to a hard drive (with backup) and placing the actual cds in a box to be dropped off at goodwill.
Eventually, you'll give in.
Resistance is Futile.

hah!
i've used that line before as well
i still play my LP's and 45's every now and then, just to hear to snap, crackle and pop in the music while the needle plays the record
back in the day, i was the dj with two turntables, mic, and 4 speed reel to reel deck.
last month my cell carrier tried to get me to upgrade to a new phone, saying "it's over 5 years old and they don't make those any more".
bet some folks don't even know what a 45 is
guess i'm holding an antique

I read an extended story and interview with this guy. What a dolt! There were pictures of his cooker where he once had an experiment blow up. He claimed it was safe because he had a geiger counter that would alert him when it was unsafe. At that point (when it was unsafe) he would stop the experiment.
Question remains...if it had become unsafe, then he would have perhaps succeeded or simply released unsafe levels or radiation into the surrounding area...how was he planning to dispose of this material if it had become unsafe?
