Woman Sold Moonshine At Day Care

CHARLOTTE -- Authorities have charged a North Carolina woman with selling moonshine out of her day care center.

The Charlotte Observer reported Tuesday that North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement arrested 57-year-old Gwendolyn Brown-Johnson last week at Parkview Community Center in Charlotte.

Agents said children were in the day care center when they sent in an undercover agent to buy two gallons of moonshine.

Brown-Johnson told the paper she was set up by a neighbor. She said she was just holding a package for a man in exchange for $80 and didn't even know what was in it.

Agents also arrested 82-year-old Ervin Preston Finger and charged him with making the moonshine. Authorities seized more than 80 gallons of moonshine from Finger.

On a side note, that's a great price per gallon - 40 bucks.

Many charge $20 per quart.

Plus, moonshine is a very popular product this time of year for creating schnops, candied cherries, brandy (peach brandy) and other gifts.

People use alcohol to help babies sleep today. Not a lot, dip the very tip of your finger in it and rub their gums / teeth with it. They'll sleep like a baby - no pun intended.

My wife's father is also Latin American, once you're off one bottle you're on another. None turned out to be alcoholics. Imagine how well they slept after a shot of something hard when they were 5.

The going rate around here (north of Charlotte, in the foothills of NC) is about $20 bucks a quart. Again, its who you know and who you trust (and who trusts you) you can get it cheaper, about 10 bucks a quart.

Candied Cherries are easy and tasty.

Just get some good fresh pitted cherries (or used those sold in groceries stores for bakers), put in container, cover with moonshine, add sugar to make a thick syrupy, and put in freezer.

The mixture never actually freezes solid because of the alcohol content but makes a nice gooey treat.
