Re: World war III?

Once things are over people and countries forgive quickly. Look how fast so many americans have forgiven 9/11. It's only because there have been no successful follow up attacks. The only thing that people can't oblige is taking too damn long to do something. It's far worse in public opinion to lose 2,500 soldiers over 4 years than to have lost 25,000 soldiers 4 years ago.

Re: World war III?

extremely intresting statement...

I see what your point is... and understand your perspective.. but have to analyze this for a bit because it is profound...

Do you think the "SwordFish" type analogy would work on the general public? leftists included?

just so you know..israel is on an occupied arab land by force...
and what the "terrorists" did was nothing compared 2 what israel is doing by killing hundreds of innocent peoples

Re: World war III?

Can you clarify what you mean when you say "on occupied land by force" please.. so I be sure of what your saying.

I understand what you mean by Israel killing "innocent" (term used losely) civilians, but it stands to reason that the difference between a hexbollah terrorist and a civilian in hezbollahs eyes is exactly how much sympathy they can gain for their terrorist cause by making claims as such.

Another major difference is, Hezbollah intentionally targets civilians, Israel targets terrorists hiding in their own families homes knowing people such as your selves will defend that type of cowardice and bemoan Israel when they take action.

Re: World war III?

What happened to the other thread on this issue? Did it get overheated and taken down? I see it's been moved but I can't access it.

im not really sure why it's closed. We can't access it, but I notice hh doesn't have any new warning either.. so hard to say. I guess it just got to hot for the mod to handle or he didn't like the direction from which it was recovering.

Re: World war III?

The thread was taken down because there were a lot of insults being thrown. There were also many complaints made. If you're going to go into political debate, you need to remember that the rules of common courtesy apply.

Re: World war III?

If the other threads retraction was anything to do with me then I apologise to the community as a whole. I have received no warnings or correspondance from DNForum moderators, however I do appreciate that I stood up to a certain member, something I think we are all entitled to do.

I do reason though that there was definately an 'implied threat' by one member against another ,and as such it seems reasonable that this could and should be reason enough for the moderators to initiate the threads withdrawal.

Now 'occupied land' is a contentious issue and phrase. Both sides consider the land to be 'theirs' by historic right, the problem arises as to when you wish historically to start the legal recognition of the 'ownership' of the land.

Also let us please agree that one persons 'terrorist' is another persons 'freedom fighter'! What here is so galling is that certain sovereign states (e.g. Syria and Iran) are manipulating the situation not for those they 'support' but for their own political ends. It would suit both these nations (Syria and Iran) if they could create another Kosovo, something I am sure neither the vast majority of the Israeli people or government want or will allow to occur.

I 'personally' believe that the Israeli action and reaction is proportionate to the acts carried out by hezbolah, indeed it may even be seen that they are not acting without concern for the civilian 'innocents' in many cases (more than ample warning to civilians to leave an area before they attck it).

Anyway, no insults, no threats, just points to debate.

Re: World war III?

If the Jews and Muslims actually believed what they preach wouldn't they just let God sort it all out when they die?

Earth viewed from the Voyager spacecraft at a distance of 4,000,000,000 miles

"We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity -- in all this vastness -- there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves." - Carl Sagan

I was just thinking along those lines yesterday. Someone needs to start a massive re-education campaign in the arab world along the lines of "Trust Allah to Judge".

I cuncur! But it would have been more impactful without the pieces of buttered roll flying from his mouth to Tony Blair's eyeballs.

Beachie, good post and good point with the Carl Sagan quote.

Too bad most people in this world don't get it.

Of course, I've seen them before. But though I don't want to get into a political debate (I've got a bit of an Irish temper ), I'd much rather have a human president that is susceptible to making such mistakes, than an android who isn't able to relate to his constituents.
