Accidentally Purchased Premium Name

I accidentally purchased a premium domain name from Godaddy for $4500. I did not realize I made this purchase until I received my credit card statement a month later. I have no desire to own this domain. Godaddy refuses to reverse it.Does anybody have thoughts about what I can do?

Contact your credit card company.

Show them the GoDaddy search results page.

I was almost a victim of this scan few times.
You just have to double check the amount on the payment page.

make sure you move your rest of the domains to another account.
They may not allow you to use your account after that.

They make about 33% or 35% on that sale.
So, they will try to keep the amount they got.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks when dealing with domain names and credit card companies is typically the person you speak to is clueless on what a domain name is.

Be sure to speak to someone in investigations to look into the matter.

WTF???

That's my question to - you didn't realize the $4500 charge when you were checking out?

I've seen premium names pop up when I've searched for them but I've always made sure to uncheck them.

That is the issue here. They are automatically checked and added to your cart.

We (those that have been domaining for a while) are used to this as we sometimes deal with those annoying check boxes daily. If you are not in-tune to this, the name is automatically added to your cart.

So, the real issue I think is how, a month later, you can possibly prove "I didn't mean to buy it". Yes, the CC bill comes a certain time of the month. But, proving your intentions (to buy or not to buy) is very difficult to prove.

In essence, how can you prove, "I did not mean to buy it!"

It will be interesting to see the outcome.

I've accidentally done the 5 year reg when in a hurry, so I can see how it could happen. I always use PayPal and have a 1k limit set, so I can't get burned to this extreme. I'm also much more careful after getting hit with more than I bargained for a couple times.

Godaddy is pretty devious with the shopping cart antics.

And I can agree with this but unless your transaction is tens of thousands of dollars - how can you not notice a $4500 charge?

You can't prove it - and if you can it will be extremely difficult.

While the OP seems to be honest that he accidentally bought the domain, there were many signs he missed that this scenario could have been avoided. Add on the fact that I'm sure every registrar deals with this on a regular basis - the majority of the time someone is trying to cheat them in one way or another and it is not easy for the companies to tell between the two.

I have had the premium name pop up hundreds if not thousands of times while searching for names. This is the only time this has happened. I suspect they automatically check the box for you as they know people are more prone to mistakenly buy it then.
The miracle is that this does not happen more often.
It would be as if Amazon put something in your cart when searching for it, not when you check that you want to buy it and then you have to manually remove it from the cart as opposed to manually adding it.

The real question is... did you get a great domain at bargain price ?
I suppose not.
At checkout you should have received a confirmation of the order no ?

Considering the pricing I've seen w/ GD's "premium" names and TDNAM's auctions - more like the opposite to the extreme.

Talking

Look on the positive side: Bob Parsons will be able to afford to date the most gorgeous young men. Doesn't that make you feel good?

You still have the nuclear option: chargeback.
Of course if you do that GD will lock your account and freeze your domains. Only use as a last resort, when you are acting in good faith but the other party won't budge.
