Look like the registry is down.
I try to register a bunch of names and it said "no connection to registry".
Try both Fabulous and Moniker.

Checked for availability at GoDaddy search and it came back as available. Went through the whole checkout process (paid with credit card) and the domain still isn't in my account.
So I go and check the whois and now all of a sudden it isn't available (already reg'd) and it shows that it has been continuously reg'd for the last 10 years!
What the hell is going on here? Anyone know?

If the registry was down, how could I go through the entire checkout process and everything? I paid for the domain and even got the thank-you confirmation email from gdaddy.
Wouldn't it just time-out when searching if the registry were down?
Could be timing issue. The registrar took your money assuming that the name is available but when it actually registers the name the registry was down and the system does not have the function to alert you.
happens all the time. just a registry glitch. when it's actually yours you get the "congratulations" email from GoDaddy.
HighPriceDomains.com ! The World's most Expensive domain names
Can anyone try to register a dot com at either Moniker or Fabulous?
I tried for the past hours without success.
Update at Name.com
NOTICE: Verisign, the registry for .COM and .NET, will be performing maintenance on Saturday November 14, 2009 from 6pm GMT-7 to 10pm GMT-7. During this time registrations, renewals and some management of .COM and .NET domain names will not be possible. Name.com thanks you for your understanding.
Make sense now. I could not find any announcement from Fabulous or Moniker.
Thanks for digging.
Had a similar issue registering a domain at GD moments ago. Reg'd a dot com and payment went through with confirmation. However the domain was not appearing in the domain manager. Additionally GD was showing the name still available for registration well after payment and supposed registration.
Double checked with Domain Tools and the domain was still available, while Fabulous was showing that both .com and .net were not available for registration, but .org was. Meanwhile Moniker displayed a ? (status unknown) beside the .com and .net versions of the name.
Looks like the explanation above about the maintenance being performed on the registry db seems accurate. One time a message to the effect appeared at GD during a page load.
Happily the domain ended up in our account in this case.

GoDaddu often shows names as being available went in fact they never are... if you find something avail at GD and it seems too good to be true check at a good, real time whois registrar like NameCheap.com

This happened to me a few years ago when I hand registered Tastes.com![]()
Happends all the time.. =)
i wish it never happened to me, but has several times...and each time i feel cheated, but ultimately find that we just got into the game a little late.![]()
Ive had this happen to me many times... I started to celebrate an AWESOME hand regged domain and then.. I find out that GoDaddy sent me an email saying:
Dear matt reine,
The following domain name has failed to be registered:
DomainNameHere.INFO
Error: Add domain failed for DomainNameHere.INFO
We will evaluate this error and retry the registration
if appropriate.
If we are unable to successfully register the domain
name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please
allow one business day for the refund to be processed.
So... until you get that congratulations email... sit tight.. the registry is having problems and will be back online soon.
The registry was down for maintenance.
This has happened to my many times from GoDaddy.
