Question LEGAL LOCK STATUS ... what is this?

I have noticed that a particular domain had expired in 2002, but it's still in Register-Hold status with Network Solutions...I wrote to them regarding this domain, and the reply i got is:

"The reason why the domain name is still with us is because it is under LEGAL LOCK STATUS. The only person who can unlock the domain name is the owner"

What does this mean? Some one please explain.

Legal lock is a lock that is put on the domain name generally when a lawsuit is initiated in connection with the domain, and sometimes as the result of a legal challenge (e.g., someone alleges the name was fraudulently stolen from them). If you contact the legal dept. of the registrar they may advise you of the specific facts.
