Re: Music Lyrics Website Owners Beware

Now dont that just suck.
I've spent over a thousand bucks this week alone on my upcoming Lyrics site.

Piss on 'em. I'm not up on the copyright laws for lyrics but it doesnt sound like they have a leg to stand on realy. I'll have to spend some time researching now.

Re: Music Lyrics Website Owners Beware

This is nothing new ... they have long targeted people distributing lyrics / tabs without permission - such actions pre-date the web.

On a related note, copyrights for all practical purposes never expire unlike patents, and thus waiting won't work ... such lyrics sites, etc have practically zero viability unless they license the material.

Not all hope is lost though ... a lyrics site that focused on smaller, independent musicians might be viable ... many "indies" would likely welcome the publicity and thus be willing to license their lyrics, etc for little to nothing.

Re: Music Lyrics Website Owners Beware

I think licensed lyrics is the rational way to solve the problem. However, the license price should be rational, too. I did some research on the issue and it's said they will target the biggest sites that seem legit to people. Only time will tell.

Re: Music Lyrics Website Owners Beware

I think they are too late, by the time they hit one, 500 will have emerged.
Webmasters will use different tactics and sites will be emerging from countries that dont have the same legal restrictions and hence the battle will be lost.

To get on top of the game, you need to stop it before it becomes a problem,
such as warez, music. They havent done that, so I'm doubtful they can stop it or even get close to reducing it.

Correct..they will just deter a select few that are in countries with laws over this. However if in unlawful countries can make money then the floodgates will open. It just seems pointless for them to fight over lyrics when they continue to have a decline in CD sales. The music industry is in big trouble and basically treading water lately.

Re: Music Lyrics Website Owners Beware

If you want to see some truly disgusting behavior, watch MTV's "cribs". This is an entire regular SERIES where absolutely nothing happens except a music "artist" wearing "gansta" clothing gives a walk through of his usually 8,000+ foot new mansion, shows off his 5 or more expensive sports cars, and all the while making direct and indirect insults it those who don't sport such greed. I'm not talking about one episode there are DOZENS of these they regularly show. Nearly all the ones I saw were rappers, with songs about how bad things are in the hood -- yet it's nothing but greed and BRAGGING about their greed when they get out.

Another disgusting show on MTV is "Meet the Barkers", which features the wife of Blink182's wealthy drummer as she mopes around her mansion, with no job skills or value of any kind. I saw 2 shows - in one she talks about the "work" of hiring a chef to cook Thansgiving dinner for her family of 3, and another she was stresses out by Christmas because she hired people to deliver and put up a Christmas tree, and had to figure out how to operate a vacuum cleaner because the maids were not in the house and some tree needles were on the floor.

This is the immoral garbage kids watch today and aspire to. I name no respect for the music industry or the losers in creates. They would be better off watching porn. Seriously.

It's unfortunate, because these sort of reality shows are not to be taken seriously. It's merely entertainment.
