    Register.com Yanked My Name!

Register.com yanked my locked domain name moutaindew.com from my Enom account. I was running my name checker and discovered this. I saw this before but thought it was a fluke. No telling what else I lost. This comes after Register.com recently put BuyPC.com into the UDRP winner's name even though a court case was keeping it on hold. WTF is going on?

btw... interesting you mentioned Register.com yanking your name away.

I had a .co.uk suddenly tagged to Register.com from eNom without my knowledge a few weeks ago. Had to get some internal help to reverse it back to eNom as tag holder.

It's okay if you only have a few names to monitor like me. If you have hundreds, good luck.

Ah yes, no need for a legal process - just take whatever you want.

These companies were too freaking stupid to reg the names in the first place - but now want the courts and ICAAN to give them all they were too stupid not to "dew".

I think the whole game should be changed to "First come, First served" and let the rest cry in their milk.

How did my name moutaindew.com get yanked from my account?

    --- Agent Reply: Brad Bailey - 11/5/2003 9:53 AM ---

This domain name lokks to have been transferred away from eNom to Register.com. I have emailed my contact with Register.com in order to find out who requested the transfer as well as who approved it.

    --- Your Reply - 11/5/2003 10:02 AM ---

The name was locked. It should not have been possible to transfer. I never received any correspondence regarding this name. If I had not checked whois, I would never have known this.

    --- Agent Reply: Brad Bailey - 11/5/2003 1:25 PM ---

I cannot tell who removed the lock and there are no comments explaining why the lock was removed so I cannot verify if the lock was removed by an eNom admin. Typically if we remove a lock we will first require the customer to contact the reseller. If they do not receive a response from the reseller, we will remove a lock ONLY if the request comes from the listed registrant contact. I was able to contact Register.com concerning this transfer and they were able to very that the domain was transferred in error. The domain has been transferred back to eNom and will be added to your account shortly.

    --- Agent Reply: Brad Bailey - 11/5/2003 3:28 PM ---

This was an error. Our database admin as well as the global registry confirm that this domain name has never been registered with eNom. It was created through Register.com and is being transferred back.

    this is mind baffling!
How on earth can they do that? It is obviously spelled different than mountain dew. What court would allow them to do that, and If there was no court decision, shouldnt someone be getting sued big time??

It makes one loose faith (well, whats left of it) in the domain business.

If you look at the expiration date at the registry, it appears two additional years have been added on at the registry level since you first posted this thread...now expires in 2007 instead of 2005.

Do you know what the expiration year was prior to March-27-2003?

Do you have proof of payment for the domain for registration to July-11-2004? If you didn't renew it in July of this year (unless you registered it for 3 years initially or 2 years on renewal), then it's possible Enom somehow let it go...and while such actions are very shady, registrars have much latitude in how they conduct business.

If you can prove payment to Enom, then you may have some options...but they'll likely cost you much time and money...

And even assuming you get it back, then there's a good chance Pepsi will simply file a UDRP (I could find none currently for the domain)...and then you'd likely lose the domain name anyways, unless here again you are willing to spend even more time and even more money :(
