Estate of Jimi Hendrix says it wins trademark suit over namesake vodka
The reason I wanted to post this is because there have been many threads asking about a famous person's name.
This is a classic example about estates and rights granted by courts to heirs or trustees.
I think it was pretty ballsy of this guy to even think of marketing this product with out permission.
And you can bet anything related to this product will be pulled if not pulled already including a domain and site.
Stupid is what stupid does
-Forrest Gump-
SEATTLE - The estate of rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix says it has won a trademark infringement lawsuit against a company that promoted Hendrix Electric vodka.
The Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix companies in Seattle say they won a $3.2 million federal court judgment that orders the vodka to be pulled from the market.
The family owned companies filed the lawsuit in 2007 against Seattle businessman Craig Dieffenbach, who packaged the vodka in purple-tinted bottles with Hendrix's face and signature above the label.

Schweet! Purple Haze!
That pick is from another source that goes on to say,
"...prohibited the company from using Hendrix products for commercial purposes and ordered that the vodka and any related advertising be withdrawn."
Not only that, but they was more to the case,
"U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Zilly's decision Tuesday was straightforward and correct. Makers of Hendrix Electric Vodka must pay $3.2 million in damages for infringing on trademarks and licensing rights owned by the late guitarist's estate. Bottles bearing Hendrix's name and likeness must be pulled from retail shelves."
That case is closed.
But the wallet is open.

Doubtful they are too young to have missed the HowToMakeMoneyOnEbayThread.
That could have easily been named HotToMakeMoneyOnJimiHendrix and the end result would still be the same.
If you attempt to profit from someone's name or product, be prepared to pay the price.
I hope to God no one here every has to pay a fine and damages like this.
correction:
HowToMakeMoneyOnJimiHendrix.

live in his house in Merrow, England .Many times they would have wild
parties and people like Jetro Tull, Steve Mc Queen etc etc would come
around. Oh those were the good times.

If I am not mistaken, he is Welch (or perhaps its tommy?)
Nope, haven't heard or seen him being promoted at all.
Tom Jones was just on a night show here not too long ago, perhaps Jay Leno's show.
I am just amazed at all the iconic mega-stars of the late 60's early 70's you managed to fit in one paragraph.
What's the problem? Jimi Hendrix should have registered his name if he wanted it. Now his family is trying to steal it from the rightful owner?
/end sarcasm
