| Platinum Lifetime Member | Site and Script Thief at Host Need a touch of advise here. I had just been browsing the net searching for a few ideas when I discovered a site which was almost identical to one of mine with a few miner changes. I did the full complete search, dns, ips, etc. And found it was at a host I was at several months ago. Being a little bit curious, I typed in a few default passwords, and low an behold there I am at the backend of the site. I did a quick search and discovered the client base was identical to my site. Natuarally, I was shocked and disgusted. I immediately reset the encrypted passwords and locked down the whole admin. Where do I go from here and where do I stand. Regards |

They can reset the Control Panel password and the database password for the admin area can be changed easily , even if they are encrypted. Now's the question: -The site scripts were "home"(custom) made or did you used a script? Maybe your script provider resold that script without your consent? You need to take an action: be polite, but let them know you are not joking with this kind of things. Cheers, Daniel

| Platinum Lifetime Member | Re: Site and Script Thief at Host Thanks, I always try to be polite and sleep on things. It avoids carelessness. I have not closed access to his c-panel or anything, just the admin to the site. It is a flat file system, not mysql. I know the script very well, and the script is bought under license. If the licensee was to discover this site. I would be held liable and have to make a payment.Because the script was issued to me. My major concern is what procedure or process do take from here? This should not be my concern. This whole issue is going to cost me money and time, both of which I have little of. Thanks again |

If you are convinced of a theft, and your clients are involved (or at risk), your first responsibility should be to them. I am not going to say it here, but I think you know what you have to do. And the sooner the better. P.S. I am sure this is bad legal advice...
