Forgive me but maybe it's not the registrar who has behaved stupidly. There have been many domain hijackings and doubtless they do not wish to contribute to the statistics.I entered the name wrong(it is stupid nickname).
They seem to be ill-equipped for normal reseller use, if what you say is true, however that does not make them stupid!
Maybe a very well thought out and polite request for assistance to Snapnames support might do it - something along the lines of "I know I made a mistake, but can you suggest a way that we can resolve the issue ....."
