    Stupid registrar...

    Hi,
I created an account on snapnames on the 12th of October.(email #1)
I entered the name wrong(it is stupid nickname). All the other details(address, email etc)
    are correct.
    I still own this account.

I bought 2 snapbacks on the 12th of October using my credit card.(email #2 and #3)

The transactions shown in my credit card statement:
    ((Mod edit - security care))
I caught two domains using these snapbacks.
One with DomainMonkeys.com and one with nominate.net

I have since changed only the name in the snapnames account (email #6) since all
the other details are correct and are the same as the credit card.

I also have photocopies of my credit card, credit card statements, phone bills etc.
to prove that I paid for the domain and that all the other details on the account are correct.

Also the domain that is used for the email of this account and the admin email on the domain is owned by me.

I need to change the name on the domains.
The correct name is as it appears on my credit card.
I think I can change details for the domain at nominate.net as they have a web based control panel.
    Haven't tried yet.

The problem is that domainmonkeys not only don't have a web based control panel(don't have anything actually!)
but they have put a lock on the domain so I would not transfer it away from them.

I have send domainmonkeys more than 10 emails but they refuse to release the domain.
They want the driver licence of the stupid nickname.

I also send 10+ email to snapnames and they also refuse to help me.
They also say tha they have no way to track the payment of my credit card.
I think they are lieing. Don't they?

I have all the emails I mention above that include invoices, the login and password at domainmonkeys etc.
Although they don't have a website they require you to give them the pass via email to make changes to the domain but
even thought I give them the right password they will not change the name or remove the lock.

What should I do? Should I write to ICANN, get a lawyer...
    Please help!

    Thanks!

I entered the name wrong(it is stupid nickname).
Forgive me but maybe it's not the registrar who has behaved stupidly. There have been many domain hijackings and doubtless they do not wish to contribute to the statistics.
They seem to be ill-equipped for normal reseller use, if what you say is true, however that does not make them stupid!
Maybe a very well thought out and polite request for assistance to Snapnames support might do it - something along the lines of "I know I made a mistake, but can you suggest a way that we can resolve the issue ....."

    Hope it works out.

"and the admin email on the domain is owned by me."

Wait out the 60 day no-registrar-transfer rule and then do a registrar transfer, which will be confirmable via the admin email address.

John you are right but they have put a lock on the domain that prevents it from being transfered.

well, like John mentioned, there is automatically a lock for 60 days. Are you SURE that the lock they put on the domain is different from this automatic lock?

By the way, if they keep demanding you send them a fax or photocopy of the driver's license with the fake nickname, you could of course just scan in your drivers license and edit it on the computer to say the nickname. Of course this option is probably not too wise...but keep it as an absolute last resort.

While I don't advocate doing anything illegal, I hate when companies do this sort of thing to us.

Do you have a scanner and PhotoShop? Perhaps the person with your nickname looks just like you and lives at your home address, has the same birthday, etc...

    See where I'm going here?

    Nail. Head. Bang.

It was you who used a nickname, rather than a verifiable identity to register a domain name, so becoming hot and bothered at the registrar is not fully justifiable. If the nickname is not wildly different from your name, you might consider supplementing your actual identification with a notarized affidavit.
