is there a time limit to file against dn hijackers?

Does anyone know if there is such a limit.

    Let's say I registered a domain in 1998 (April).
The domain never dropped, but for whatever reasons, it was hijacked around 2002.

Is there any law that would work against me in recovering this name, even though I just realized it now?

*assmuption: I have all the proof that I owned the domain, and it was regged until April 2004.
The domain NEVER droped. Nor was there any legitimate case for its hijacking. It was accroding to the registrar, 'an error'.
Now, assuming the registrar is willing to help, but it could take ages, and the hijacker has whois guard, is there a law that states since I should have renewed it in 2004 that I can not get it back?

any hints are much appreciated before I take this any further.

Took several years in the sex.com case. You can file now.

I would think as long as you still own the site that you have a case against this person.

Hell I own over two hundred names and I know many of you have even more names, there is no way we can check all of them on a daily or even monthy basis, as we all have other jobs as well.

there is tons of paid monitoring softwares and some FREE online monitoring.

after i lost ~100 3 letter .orgs i had to purchase some of those, especially some registrars really suck in notifying you that names are expiring.
