    Trademark query

I'm considering generating a domain but i'm dubious as to whether I am infringing a trademark.

    Here is the scenario:
There is a .com that is trademarked as ***.com. If I buy/create a .com that drops the last letter of the word and parked it and advertised it in the same field as the trademarked domain would I be asking for trouble?

    What do you think?

    Re: Trademark query

Here's how the trademark owner would likely argue it.

Exactly the same but dropping last latter of the word = Confusingly similar.

Parking and advertising in same field = No legitimate purpose.

Knowing about the trademark beforehand = Bad faith.

    That's asking for trouble.

Are you substituting a star per letter? In other words, is the TM 3 letters long or are you using a generic example? If it's the former, you don't have much to worry about.

Well, actually it's a longer word with a double consanant at the end, one being dropped.

The more I think about it the more uncomfortable I feel. It's a typo but there is no way of smudging the intention really!

I'll try and erase it from my memory. :-D

    "the intention"

One's intent in registering the domain name is an important factor. Your original question leaves something of a chicken-and-egg mystery.
