    Typosquatter Fined US$164'000 by FTC

A so-called typosquatter who served advertisements on domains such as Bobthebiulder.com and teltubbies.com has been fined again by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

John Zuccarini has agreed to give up US$164'000 in typosquatting revenue he is alleged to have raked in...

It's getting tougher for the typosquatters out there.

That's some serious cash to fork over.

Domain remediation, nice. Kind of like taking over land polluted by radioactive waste. Do you charge much for this service?

I appreciate your question. I don't charge anything, I'm just offering some friendly advice, which has been helpful to many already.

You know, some registered or bought infringing domains by mistake, or bad judgement. Now, with all the lawsuits and increased awareness about liability risks, some domainers no longer sleep very well.

I've spoken to some who are afraid of answering the phone, or opening letters. Think about it: every time you check your email, you're scared. That's probably not very fun.

And you can't just delete the domains in question either - whois history is archived, along with your credit card statements and ip addresses. Some registrars continue to monetize domains after you submit them for deletion. Will it help you in court if you claim you tried to delete a domain? Who knows. Some think the potential consequences are too serious to face the risk of being found guilty of typosquatting.

I simply wanted to say that here are smart ways out, for those who are concerned.

Hey, don't knock typist in this regard. Who knows, there may be people out there who have converting domains they may need to dispose of.

90% of companies send you a C&D letter and give you a chance to make things easy..since it is a "civil matter", at this point at least..

Usually, you get a C&D, you hand it over, everything is over. Me thinks Typist is kind enough to take these domains off your hands, park them, collect the revenue, then if (not neccessarily when) he is contacted, he just gives it up and keeps everything earned with the domain. Bet I'm pretty close. This thread seems to turn into a scare tactic sales pitch to me lol. But each person establishes thier own risk/reward factor. But this is the legal section, and pimping should be outside on this part of the forum perhaps?

    That may be your experience

    Tony P. wasn't so lucky.

If you look at the registrar/whois history, you'll notice he handed over most infringing domains to Microsoft months before the lawsuit.

Do you also tell people just because they hand it over does not mean they cannot come after them and they are not released from liability? So a TM holder can come after everyone who owned the domain. So any service or help you may offer may not be help at all, but you collect all the revenue.

As far as someone getting their hand caught in the cookie jar, it can happen. Jsut ask Phil B. and thoughsands of other domainers who handed teh name over and nothing happened. But seriously, move to a sales thread or other services.

    PS- Thanx Biggie
