DNF$: 310 Location: europe | "webs" -- Could I have copyright problems? Hello. Right now I'm developing little site that allows people to create super-quick, free webpages. The name I'm planning to use is [word]webs.com. I wasn't specifically looking for a word ending with "webs", but after searching through various lists of names, this is the only decent-sounding available name that I could find. Now... Given that the site WEBS.COM (previously known as freewebs.com), provides a similar service, (quick, free, online website-building), is there any possibility that I could land myself in trouble from them? Or is webs such a generic term that it doesn't matter. Like MAIL. Thanks |

DNF$: 20 Location: Home | Not an expert on this field, but if its similar to regular copyright issues, it would probably have a lot to do with the question of whether people looking for them would mistake you for them. I would make the design as different as possible and the first word as distinguishing as possible. Please do not view this is legal advice in lieu of asking a lawyer. Good luck! |

Country: | That is a trademark question, not a copyright question.

Country: | Trademark Search on Domain Name U need to do a trademark availability search to determine risk and avoid a potential domain name dispute. It sucks having to re-brand once you are up and running. Part of the cost of doing business. Here are some trademark registration and trademark clearance posts with more information. Good luck! __________________ Enrico Schaefer, Attorney Domain Name Dispute & Cybersquatting Lawyers enrico.schaefer [@] traverselegal.com |
