what's the worst that can happen?

A great domain name is availble, but it contains the domain name of a very popular site.

It's an adult site, so I can't post a link here.

    We'll say it's a .com about a guy who's a HUNTER of MOMS

I can't find any trademarks, but I'm sure they have intellectual property rights. Let's say I registered this name, and months down the road they don't like it and come after me. What's the worst that can happen and what are the chances of that happening?

I'm not looking for anything extensive here. After searching the forum, I can see this topic is one dead horse. I would just appreciate a quick one or two line answer.

    Thanks

The worst that can happen is they'll hire Guido to come break your legs

Actually they would probably do a udrp if they had a TM or common mark. However the adult industry, from what I have seen, is typically very relaxed when it comes to domain names. They can be strict with actor/actress names however. I've used other company names to promote sites and not had a problem.

Thanks DNGeeks. I'll just register them with whois guard, that way Guido will never know who I am! lol, I'm sure if a company wanted to, they could get past the whois guard!

If you compete with them (using adult content) couldn't they go after you for loss of revenue?

They could go after you for revenue, court costs, etc. So the worst that can happen is they clean your wallet out and you have no more money or assets. If your going to use the domain to make money, make sure you are promoting their program and not another sponsor. Promoting that site will make you just enough money, if not more, as promoting another adult site or creating your own.

There are actually a lot of things to consider, azt. But one other thing that
can work in your favor is making sure your use is different and/or unrelated to
    the other party's.

Actually the registrar will at least try to forward it to you, or be forced to
reveal the actual info depending on the UDRP providers (I think) or via court
    order.
