    Why not buy after cancelation?

I bought a short .co.uk name last year.

Canceled it this week after getting a load of nasty emails from a large german travel company and a c and d letter.

The name has been canceled today but nobody has registered it?

    How can this be?

Why would they not register it. Why spend so much money on the law and then not bother to register the name ?

    Seems barmy.

Re: Why not buy after cancelation?

Most often C&D letters include a demand for either
    - transfer of the disputed name
    OR
    - deletion of the disputed name

It looks like they are not truly interested in the name. They just want to prevent you from using their corporate image and are satisfied that you cancelled the name.

If it's a German company that has no business in the UK they probably don't really need .co.uk anyway. On the other hand someone else might reg the name and they would start it all over again
I agree that they should have grabbed the name if they worry so much about it.
Or they did not notice yet that the name had been cancelled.

You tend to see this alot with domain names. When brick and mortar companies find out their brand "may" or may not be in use, they pay all kinds of money for legal action. But, instead of registering their TM in all extensions for just a couple hundred dollars, they instead take infant steps in the domain world.
