Ads by Yahoo showing up in RSS Feed of Mini Sites

    Hi,

Yahoo has started serving their own adds a couple of days ago in the RSS feeds of the mini sites. All of them, not just mine. Take a look at your new one at the bottom in the RSS section:

    http://www.newlaptops.ca/

Yahoo serves an ad instead of the first RSS news item and then serves 3 news item then another ad! It is like this on the internal pages too every place the RSS feeds appear!

Is there any way to screen these out? (other than not having the RSS feed) We get no money when people click them and they also clutter up the page. Also the extra ads may be an problem with Adsense, I don't know.

This is an important issue to me.

I am not definitely sure, but, I think you are right.
You can not show adsense and ypn on the same page.
However, what you see on your page, is that ypn?

You may want to ask google

It says [Ads by Yahoo] and it comes from the Yahoo RSS feed that is included in the content mini sites. It is not just in mine it is in all of the content mini sites produced by dnforum.com. Look at the bottom of this site for an example:

    http://www.newlaptops.ca/

Some changes need to be made so this won't happen! I will not purchase any more sites until this issue is fixed. I know I can disable the feed but that also removes lots of content.

When you are using their rss feed - you agree to their terms.

as per of proving you the feed they have the right to send ads as well.

You have the option of not using their feed.

Yeah, looks like they are showing 1 ad. Not a big price to pay to use their news feeds for refreshed daily content. Its almost hidden for the most part.

Yes you can remove the RSS if you dont want to show it as well.

Actually they are showing two ads if you run 5 more more Yahoo news feed articles.

What I an wondering is it against Adsense TOS to show Yahoo ads on the same page as Adsense? I would hate to get into trouble with Adsense over this.

Fatter, what kind of custom pages are you doing? Any did anyone find out if the yahoo ads are a problem for google ads? I found this forum from 2006 where someone who works from Google says you cannot have Google adsesnse and Yahoo ads on the same page on a website: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum89/11678.htm

This issue needs to be addressed ASAP... it would be very upsetting to all of us if our adsense accounts got canceled or terminated because of this!

By the way, in case you haven't figured it out... it seems like we can disable the yahoo ads (along with all of the RSS News) by doing this:

    1. Log into yourwebsite.com/sm
    2. Click on Plugins in the left pane
    3. Click on the "Disable This Plugin" for the RSS News category
Beauty & Health Home Remedies ~~ Doctor Oz ~~ Recipes for Diets ~~ Acne Stories

I buy health, beauty and food related sites (like above)!

The rule you mentioned is still there.
The difference is you are not using yahoo ads and AdSense ads on the same page.

They are forced by Yahoo - Hope google understands that and not ban people for something they can not control.

If you are scared (based on yahoo gone for good - you need to be) you can disable yahoo feed for now until the dust is settled.

Is there a way to disable the yahoo feed without disabling all of the RSS News (through the process I mentioned above)? Or is there a way to put some other feed there in place of the yahoo feed?

Yes, you are not personally displaying 2 different publishers ads on your website to earn a profit.
Its a forced ad through Yahoo and not ads you are displaying through your own publisher network.

Yes you can also change the feed by editing the homepage template. You will see the following:
    plugin('rssnews',
    "http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rs...p=$rss_keyword",

Replace the link there with any other rss link. For example on baboons.ca I replaced it with a link from msn and it worked fine:

    plugin('rssnews',
    "http://www.msn.com/rss/news.aspx",

It would be best to find a related rss link or an RSS system that will allow you to define the rss with a keyword so you can target the content towards you site.

    Thank you
    Huseyin,

You can use whatever feed you wish. With Google they ban when you use their feed and duplicating their content.

We find Yahoo is more forgiving when it comes to their RSS feed.

Google TOS says you can use the feed on a non-commercial site. I don't think these minisites could be considered non-commercial because their purpose is to earn money via adsense. Yahoo's TOS says the same thing about their feed, for non-commercial use only.
