Appears that the sentencing will be done in June. Then to determine the actual time "that martha will have to spend in jail" as per the contest rules, we will have to wait until she gets out.

This contest could be going on for a long time as she might be sentenced in June to whatever, and she may get time off for good behavior or cooking the guards a pie or something. Don't forget her lawyers have said they will appeal.

Nah. You can't change the rules once the contest has started. The sentence (no pun intended) was clear. How much time "that martha will have to spend in jail" not what her sentence will be. Two completely different questions.

Cripes, that could take years to determine. Appeals, early release, etc..

Actual time spent is clearly against the SPIRIT of the start of the thread, although, admittedly the complete wording is a bit clumsy and prehaps contradictory.

The very first sentence of the thread started as: "We should have a contest to see who can predict her sentence

"

That is what should be at stake. That was the INTENT.

Nobody wants to wait YEARS for this contest to conclude.

This is about what will happen in June 2004. Let's be clear about that.

At the time this contest started nobody knew it was going to take the judge till June just to come up with a sentence. If she had been sentenced right away (as was expected) and my first guess of 3 months was right (time spent in Jail) she would have already been out by June. I read the rules as they were written and guessed accordingly. If the contest asked for what the amount of time her sentence would be, I would have said 11 and 16 months instead of 3 and 5 months. Other posts along the way also clarified this. (see Stevo)
