- grab a translator. A few that I've used:
http://www.systranet.com/systran/net http://babelfish.altavista.com/ http://google.com/translate
Then translate whatever you're looking for from English to the language in which to target your IDN.
For argument's sake, 'money' in Japanese would be お金
- cut and paste the term and enter it into an IDN-enabled registrar like domainsite.com, dd24, enom
Voila -- domainsite will show the equivalent punycode as well as unicode and indicate whether or not the term is available to be registered or not.
お金.com is not available.
If you want to do a Whois lookup, you can only use the punycode of お金.com = xn--t8jw050a.com
This shows that
http://www.whois.sc/xn--t8jw050a.com was registered in June 2004.
