premium chinese and japanese IDNs score million hits on google, usually. Anyway >100k hits is a nice name as well.
Anyway, there are names with 0 OVT but with traffic. OVT is not an absolute indicator IMHO

1st rule of thumb is to register what you think has value.
2. Use complete common sense.
If you want to register things in a certain market you specialize in think about what the term would be worth in value to that market.
It will save you in the long run if you think in this ways.
Reconfirm your terms by looking on Google.cn, Google.co.jp
Also use Yahoo.co.jp
Make sure you look at pictures & see if the results are the same...
I went after things like Mink, Sable Coats, Pink Diamonds, Fur Coats.
Overture searches are low but a mink or Sable in Japan can cost $30,000 to $50,000
Pink Diamonds well... ya get the point...

Totally agree with u guys. IMO, Ive tried OVTing some pretty valuable IDNs, and the result's low, some even return '0'. But such keywords actually get very high hits in Google.
However, for chinese IDN's case, I personally feel that its better to test using baidu, since most chinese uses it as their primary search engine.
A > 100K result for Google is good, how about baidu?
Just make sure you have the correct use of term too if it isn't your native language.
Poker can be a poker stick, affiliate can be an associate & certainly not the way we use it in English...
This is a common mistake many make.
Wikipedia has plenty of not so common words in it... Plenty... Babelfish gives really basic translations...

precisely Olney, and there are certain hip words that are used by certain language that will score high, whom non-natives wil never be able to find just by doing direct translation
