    Very Important IDN related QUESTIONS

    Hi All,

I have been in domains for 8 years but mostly in .com area.

I need your help to understand the following questions:

    1. What really is IDN? Is it domains in other languages using .com, .net, .org TLDs?

    2. Who are all the registrars that allow IDN regsitartion?

    3. Who is the best, and most reliable IDN registrar?

    4. Who is the "cheapest" IDN registrar or can you just register IDNs at the same rate as any other .com, .net, etc?

    5. Where do you get the language support i.e. how do you type other languages while registering IDNs?

    Please advise.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Regards.

Internationalized Domain Name - They are in other languages
Russian - cryllic script domain names for example.

    2. Who are all the registrars that allow IDN regsitartion?
    Dynadot.com ($7.99/yr) and domainsite.com ($6.99/yr)

    3. Who is the best, and most reliable IDN registrar?
Domainsite.com for $6.99 has been worry free so far for my domains.

    4. Who is the "cheapest" IDN registrar or can you just register IDNs at the same rate as any other .com, .net, etc?
domainsite.com $6.99 yr - All registrars that I've seen charge the same for idn and non idn. Except for .jp which has been running a sale for idn.jp names

    5. Where do you get the language support i.e. how do you type other languages while registering IDNs?
You can install the language packs for chinese simplified, traditional, japanese, and korean. Search google for "Japanese Language Pack" etc

    Biggest misconception.

They ARE .com if you choose to register them in .com.

Re: Very Important IDN related QUESTIONS

Thanks guys for your helpful responses.

I have few more questions as follows:

    6. Can I get language packs for most languages such as Hindi, Chinese, Arabic, etc etc?

    7. Any freely available language packs anywhere on the web?

    8. Do I need to convert the original language 'word' into english or some kind of code and then put that code with extension (lets xyz--abc--1.com etc) into the domain registration field at my registrar?

    9. Or do I need to write the word in the original language with extension and then register?

    10. I guess if #8 is true, then I can just register IDN at any registrar because all registrars understand english and hyphens (--). Am I right?

    Thanks for explaining in detail.

Your help is very much appreciated.

    Regards.

6 & 7. Yes. Search for the Arial Unicode Font which includes support for most languages. It's a big file.

    8. & 9. At domainsite, you can simply enter the unicode (native characters) and they will convert it into the punycode for you (xn--blahblahblah.com)

    10. Nope. IDN come with a language tag which most registrars do not support. In a year, they will ALL support it. IDN are that big.
