Angry 1and1.com = HORRIBLE

I have bought over 500 domains during my existence with 1and1.com, there has been no problem until when I requested a list of all of my names because they do NOT have an option for this anywhere on their website, which makes me frustrated because with all the technology and money they are making they cannot supply me with a simple list of my domain names?!??! They said I have to go to who.is and look each name 1 by 1 but that is NOT right and with 500 domains you can believe that would take some time, WTF? Second, about a year ago they decided to suddenly charge me $2 more without give me a noticed.... That would be fine for a client with 50 or less domains, I guess but i had over 500 names and thats another $1000 on top of the domain expenses... This company gives you no customer support, they up charge you at their convenience and I want to get the word out to be aware of this horrid company! Has anyone else had this or a bad experience with them? I think these experiences I stated are pretty valid reasons NOT to support them or use them for anything, especially giving them my hard earned money. Bottom line is 1and1.com are digital THIEVES!

Do a search, Google and other Domain Name Forums and you will see you only scratched the surface. They are one of the worst companies you will ever find.

1and1 has good hosting but their domain service sucks bad! Maybe the worst ever. Their using the domain as just another addition to their service so they won't be too happy if your buying a lot of domain using their domain prices.

I'll agree - 1&1 is one of the worse registrars out there, they only have two positives in my book:

1) Good anti-spam with their email
2) Free private registration.

One month they renewed about 30 domains of mine I wanted to cancel - I even did the correct paperwork a month early and clicked the confirmation link. Even after I proved everything they still refused to do anything about it.

A week later I had no domains with them - over 150 domains out of their systems AND a hosting account.

You say "A week later I had no domains with them...". Are you saying that you transferred them away? If so, was it difficult to do? Any problems?

I transferred them all away to GoDaddy with no issues. But - I didn't overly complain about the renewed domains nor did I threaten any action.

I made sure they were all unlocked and had all of the auth codes, then set up the transfers with the new registrar.

For some reason they keep sending me emails that one of my domains isn't pointed to their hosting account - I canceled that earlier this year when the subscription is up.

If you have hosting with them, just back up all of your sites and databases - you shouldn't have an issue transferring them to a new host.

Have you been billed since? I read where people have actually been billed for renewals AFTER transferring away.

Why do you specify that you had not complained or threaten action? This makes a difference?

Thanks

Not yet, but the credit card they had has been canceled and I haven't received any inquiries from them about extra billing - and it's been over a year.

These morons picked a bad day to pull this crap on me.

I filled a complaint with Pennsylvania's Attorney General

http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=451

Perhaps nothing will be resolved but it makes me feel better to do something..

Just to update .. today I got credited for the domains I had transferred-out

but was charged for by 1and1.

Not really sure at this point why the "change of heart" but this

complaint was on principle not $$$ ..

Next in line would be ripoffreport.com and the BBB.,.

Complain !!!

As mentioned earlier by everyone, 1&1 is one of the worst web-related companies you can find. Simply avoid those losers.

As scary as it may seem I'll have to disagree. I've seen worse - much worse.

They're the worst of the big players.

I have written about this before.

What you need to know about 1&1 is that you are not paying based on the domain cost but on something they call a "package" with the domain inside the package but even if the domain is transferred or cancelled the so called package still exists and they will charge the package fee regardless of the domain being there or not. It's a very strange business model to say the least but they are very successful with it.
