    Cool Stuck on Pricing.

    greetings,

I am a newbie but have been in the internet business for over 15 years. I have a good portfolio of domains to sell however it seems as though my pricing is all wrong.

Can someone give me a little advice on how I find the best domain evaluation tool or evaluation company whereas my prices will be fair for all?

Should I get my portfolio professionally appraised? If so, who is the best or if not what should I do?

    Sincerely, speakez

Don't pay for an appraisal (pointless and not objective).
Best is to post your domains in the appraisal section of the forum.

The best way to guage your portfolio is by offers that come in.

If there are no offers then there really isn't much value.

Thanks DCG and just so I am clear as to what you are saying, if you have your domains listed in 10 good places and you are having no luck with offers, that most likely the best barometer that your prices are too high. Is there any place like estibot or valuate where you can at least get a realistic starting price?

    Or your domains stink.

    It's one or the other.

    Good domains priced well sell.
Bad domains priced low still won't sell.

So when you began you knew how good or bad your domains were and exactly how to price them?

That must be why you call yourself the domain g-d!

Do you have anything constructive to add to very legitimate question other than, "either your domains stink or your prices are too high?"

I certainly would expect more from an administrator. :(

Appraisal means nothing if you don't have a buyer.
The real price of a name is how much a potential buyer is willing to pay.
One name can be sold on a forum for $20 but may end up in an end-user a couple weeks later for $2,000.

MessMeBot or other appraisal service is a joke - A real one.

Actually, he was not being derogatory or condescending in the least. He was giving a straight answer, stating a fact. It would appear you may have misinterpreted his tone. He appeared to be simply responding to your statement:

that most likely the best barometer that your prices are too high

I appreciate your input South however I just can't believe that there isn't some way to come up with a starting price for a domain and then allow the market to dictate the price accordingly.

I joined DNF to get tips such as this and any help you or anyone else could provide I would greatly appreciate.

Unfortunately the above statement is true not just for you but for most domainers.

The only way to tell what the issue is would be to post a few domains with your asking prices but don't get insulted with professional opinions.

... and for the record I too have some domain overpriced that stink, most people do.

Ok, fair enough and just for the record I am not insulted but rather frustrated.

One of the reasons I joined the Platinum Level of DNF is that it offered, "The Ability to appraise your domains."

Unless I am missing something, there is nothing of the sort here besides forums where you post your domains and others tell you what they think.

Am I correct in saying this?

Only a few give appraisals. Some names don't get any appraisal at all.

I use past domain sales data to determine the range. Use namebio.com or dnsaleprice.com.

You can post names for appraisal here: http://www.dnforum.com/f4/
This is the IDN Appraisals section, I'm not sure why you posted here, unless your names are IDN.

What DCG is saying is very true, when you own good domains, you receive unsolicited offers from time to time, or at least expressions of interest. Whether pricing is right is another matter, but if nobody is even inquiring about the domains it's a sign usually.

    Hi

as others have said, appraisal tools are basically worthless.

they hold no value for the buyer, they only feed the owner's ego or crush it.

post your domains here on the forum in the appropriate section for appraisal and send me the link or pm me directly.

i'll give it my best shot

but even if you haven't received any offers to date....doesn't mean you won't receive some in the future.

you may have to hold a domain for a year or 10yrs before an offer comes, or the "right" offers comes.

or it could take time before your domain matures, if it's future forward or brandable

How many domains do you have? If you want to send me a link to your portfolio, I will tell you what I think.

First and foremost and above all, get this point into your head...it takes work.

    Let that point sink in.

Now that you have accepted the primary point, lets move on from there...it takes exposure.

This is where the work (lots of it) comes in.

Take everyone of your domains and list them for sale and for parking at...sedo.com, bodis.com, namedrive.com, afternic.com, parked.com and others.

For each domain that you upload, you will need to set keywords...keywords are what attracts the traffic. Without traffic, you have junk.

You will need to upload and set keywords at each place you list them for sale or for parking.

Don't concentrate too much on where to park at the moment. The key is to list them in as many places as possible to get the exposure.

You mention that your involvement in the internet of 15 years. If you can make sites, then make another site with your domains listed. Again, exposure.

Okay, domains listed at as many sites as possible, keywords set for each individual name at each site...maximum exposure achieved.

Now you can move on to selected where you want to park your domains.

If at sedo, fine...set your DNS to sedo servers.

Look at your traffic after 30 days.

Take your names that have no traffic and move to another parking service...you already have them listed with their keywords. Just because you got zilch traffic at one place does not mean you have no traffic. Some parking companies do better with foreign traffic than others (bodis is a good example).

Got traffic but no conversion? Perhaps the keywords suck. To help determine keywords, park them at namedrive. Namedrive is great at listing what keywords your actual traffic is looking for. This can be invaluable in taking traffic and actually converting this into clicks. Clicks = $.$$

Give yourself (and your names) the benefit of the doubt...allot about 6 months time to try out different parking services and setting/resetting keywords.

Yes, ultimately those that have little to no traffic are not worth renewing or keeping.

There is NO APPRAISAL service worth paying for or even free (ie, estibot).

The end result is you have done the work necessary, you have exposure of listing these names at multiple sites (thus greater indexing on the search engines), and you know which ones MIGHT be worth holding onto.

Don't expect your names to get offers or sell without putting some work (A LOT OF WORK) into marketing them.

If you are asking these questions now, then that is proof positive that the buyers are not knocking each other over to get your names.

    Work + Work + Work = Exposure.

    Exposure = Traffic + Offers

No Traffic + No Offers = Junk Dump

    Doc Com - Right On!

Greetings Doc Com, That was the best explanation that I have heard to date and I thank you for taking the time to share your words of wisdom. Since my last post which was almost 1 month ago, interestingly enough, I have done exactly what you said and it. Is working! My domains are listed in about 7 different auctions and I am getting almost 3 sales per week. I wish I were making more on each sale however I can't complain since I am making sales and income now. One question I do have however is what happens if you get an offer at multiple auctions? Currently when I get an offer, I immediately go to all the other auction sites and delete the domain from my portfolio. Of course this takes time and I was wondering if you had any advice in regards to this? Once again, your time and wisdom is much appreciated by all! Sincerely, speakez
