A small bit of trivia. I can confirm that Google Sitemaps isn't able to verify my IDN based website. Another IDN related quirk that will need to be worked out by G.

enter the url via punycode - not unicode - see if that works

The punycode domain is the version that I entered into Google Sitemaps, as it won't except unicode.
