    Japanese IDN translator?

can someone give me a link to a translator for a Japanese IDN name so I can verify what the word means? Or if anyone knows the language, pm me, please.

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

I tryed it at that site, and it did say it was the right one, but then I tried to register the name at enom, namecheap and domainsite, and it won't register. The .net is taken, so it is not reserved, is it?

    Google Language Tools - http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

Also, if the name did not register and you have tried multiple places, then it sounds like you have a variant (name with similar meaning to another variation that's already registered).

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

The Google translator is pretty good.
Mostly all good Japanese Premium generics are gone (one word) guaranteed.

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

this one is a "Premium generic", but the register sites are not letting me take the .com uven though the .net is taken and the .com is available. I keep getting an error whenever I try.

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

Yep it's probably a variant issue then. There are MANY good generic IDN .coms that are available because of that reason. There's no way to really tell if a variant of that same word in either the same / or a similar language has already been registered until you go to check it out. Expect this to happen many more times in the future. It's just a part of the IDN registration experience

Most likely it is taken... If there is a variant error then you are out of luck.

Or Beijing.com in Simplified Chinese. But that is blocked too (most likely because some has registered Beijing.com in Traditional Chinese).

There are many words shared between Japanese language and Chinese language. Some are Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese and Japanese.

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

Dynadot will tell you (As you have seen) that it is not possible to register as if its Traditional chinese the Simplified Chinese version has already been registered and vise-versa.
Japanese uses a lot of Chinese characters so thats why it is unregisterable.
The other reason is that it has been reserved and unavailable to the public.

To check, if its Traditional and is showing as free but unregisterable, try the Simplified and guaranteed it will show as taken.

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

Another pretty decent online (free) dictionary is systranet.com.

There are many other "free" ones, but its a come on, and after a few names they cut you off if you dont buy their software.

    Re: Japanese IDN translator?

    It's actually Dynadot.com, thanks Kingpin.

This is the tricky part with IDNs:

Sometimes our domain search will say that your IDN is available, but we will not be able to register the domain for you. The problem is caused by one of the following reasons:

-You did not enter the correct language tag for your IDN. We can usually fix this for you by changing the language tag for your IDN. But to prevent delays, try to enter the correct language tag for your domain.

-The IDN you entered contains characters that are not supported. The central registries do not support every character for every language. For example, in Greek there are some characters that are actually the combination of 2 simpler characters. The registry will support the simpler characters, but not the combined character.

-A variant of the IDN already exists. Some languages have 2 ways to write the same character. For example, Chinese has traditional characters and simplified characters. If someone has registered the traditional version of your IDN, then you are not allowed to register the simplified version.

-The IDN you entered combines two different languages. Sometimes combining characters from 2 different languages into one IDN is not allowed. For example, a domain containing Cyrillic characters can not also have English characters. This is because the Cyrillic alphabet is related to the English alphabet, and combining characters from both languages could lead to confusion. Other language combinations are allowed, like Chinese and English.

-Unfortunately, the IDN domain seach will not detect these errors. The errors can not be detected until we try to register your IDN. If for some reason your IDN can not be registered, you will be issued an account credit which you can use to register another domain.
