Nothing to see here...
do research before posting I have a translator also yeah thats what google will say but talk to some asian people you'll know, and alta vista isnt accurate for translation either you cant go off what these translators say to register domains its not close to 100% your better off using overture as a guide help with the registration process.

That's what I thought too. Google returns >9M results of 硅谷;Originally Posted by thefabfive
and 1M for 矽谷. The latter is used in Taiwan:

As you can see research is subjective.
硅谷 gets 7M results on Baidu.com
矽谷 gets 3M
Not trying to derail your thread. Just asking a legitimite question.
Nothing to see here...
simple question: That looks neat but what are chinese people using?
矽谷 or 硅谷 what does overture tells you? what are the results for the Characters in overture? answer that
Also why i'm able to find sponsored results on google for 矽谷 and not 硅谷
what is the market using?
What does overture say for the characters?
I'm not trying to derail the way you register domains but
"I register names based on type-ins not by web results"
"I could put any abc123 letter/word in a search engine and get one hundred million results"
so what gonna help me determine potential traffic ?
I would say overture hands down, I used this same tool since overture was goto.com and it never failed me.
and the translator havent call me back
yet I guess he's stumped.

Good luck with the sale.

Why not answer?
These were legitimate questions?
I'm gonna call my boss hopefully we can get his certified translator on here to clear this up, I doubt he will though LOL
but you should at least answer my previous post before you go
Long live. ----> 矽谷.com (Silicon Valley)

Yes, TW Overture returns 4K searches for 矽谷 and only 35 for 硅谷. This tells me that 硅谷 is used more in Taiwan than 硅谷. This is probably also the case in Hong Kong (137 vs. 31).
What form is used more in mainland China? I don't know. But the Baidu.com search results tell me what term is found more in Chinese websites. There are also two sponsored ads for 硅谷 on Baidu and none for 矽谷.
Now, I'm not saying 矽谷 doesn't mean 'Silicon Valley'. As Kenne suggested, 矽谷 appears to be the predominant form in Taiwan.
Again, good luck with the sale.

Thanks I truly appreciate that, now thats an explanation I could live with
I figure the sponsor thing is because baidu and google are 2 separate entities
so can we say 矽谷 is the powerful or will 矽谷 and 硅谷 share market somehow?

矽谷 <- Traditional Chinese
硅谷 <- Simpified Chinese

It seems like the traditional form of silicon valley.
