From answers.comA weblog.
A Web site that contains dated entries in chronological order starting with the most recent. The blog deals with one subject of interest, and entries contain commentary and links to other Web sites. Images as well as a search facility may also be included. Blogs provide a way to personally publish information about a subject and keep it updated. Some blogs invite feedback and comments from visitors.
A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in cronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominantly.

The name is a shortened form of "WebLog". Shortened to "Blog"

livejournal.com is probably one of the most well known blogging services out there... and blogwise.com is a good blog directory. There are an enormous amounts of blog services available on the net... the concept is very 2001... in other words, all the rage and a hot concept several years ago but it has morphed into being a political and business tool more than a personal one in recent years, and the market is saturated. I see a lot of CEO's picking up the blogging habit, especially in our industry ... which is a great tool to punch up their visitbility, but often they end up looking very egotistical and of course self serving. And speaking of self serving, egotistical blogs, the head of GoDaddy recently started his own blog ...bobparsons.com, and the irony is this and the google blog are the only ones I read regularly..
