    The Business of Domaining

I just started "domaining" after reading yet another Business 2.0; and I'm fully aware that this isn't something that I can get rich with overnight, but if I'm smart about developing domains and expanding sites I purchase I do believe I can make a decent living from the residual income.

With that said, what are the different "angles" that one can play in this business? What should I look for when buying a developed site? A turnkey site?

    Thanks

    Re: The Business of Domaining

I got hooked on domains because of the December 2005 Business 2.0 article. As a web developer by profession it was not difficult for me to get started.

After purchasing nearly 200 domains (150 are worthless) in the last 6 months I am happy to report I have actually made a profit and I love this business.

I wouldn't quit your day job though until you have a steady monthly income. It is good you have ended up at this forum as there are many successful individuals who can assist you in your goals.

    Good luck and welcome

I wouldn't bother with most turnkey sites, do some good research on your domains, looking at keywords and PPC bids on various sectors, then if you want a website get a nice unique minisite from here to promote the domain.

one figure sale/purchase, two figure sale/purchase, three figure sale/purchase,
four figure sale/purchase, five figure sale/purchase, six figure sale/purchase thats the way how people make progress. dont aim for 3 figure domain sale/purchase in the beginning, start with 1

    Re: The Business of Domaining

Since you are talking about developing only, you have to weigh the time involved vs. income when buying/creating a website. The most important factor , if you are going to put 20 hours a week into a website and get $50 a month in revenue from it then you are going backwards, you also have to know exactly where the traffic is coming from when purchasing , is it traffic from advertising - search traffic - link traffic etc.....will the traffic continue without expense? Is the market flooded with similar sites? These are the most important factors.
