    Confused by domain volumes

    What I mean is...

I see some people offering over 2000 domains for sale.

    The registrar I use is $25 US/yr.

The cheap guys are $7-$10 I think....

That is still a massive amount of cash to outlay for domains.

So either, they have built their portfolio up over the years, or there is a supercheap registrar out there I'm not aware of.

Or maybe these guys work for registrar's themselves? That might explain it...

Thoughts and comments to educate me are appreciated

    most members here are resellers.

they have accounts at registrars which now charge between $6.50 > $9

many of us registered names when registration fee's were lower $6.25 > $7.00

also, many members "taste" domains, which is the practice of registering domains and "deleting' them within a "4 day" period after registration, and only incurring a small fee or no fee at all.

    hope that helps

I only pay about $6.50 or so. About 'par' rate. Where do you find a registrar that charges $25.00?

PS Some are $2.99 for 1st. year.

Namescout.com is the $25, but I've never had a problem with them.

Whereas every now and then I hear horror stories about some of the cheaper guys...it's always stopped me from moving my stuff

Thanks for the replies guys, makes sense.

Form a corporation, then the renewal fees can be expensed.

Hearing that someone is paying 25$/year per domain is a horror story! There's a lots of reputable 'cheaper guys' out there. Don't be afraid to pay less!

Most of the guys with huge domain portfolios are parking them. That means they're using a service that puts ads in the landing page. The revenue earned from it usually surpasses the yearly costs.

I hope this helped you somehow.

Yeah even GoDaddy charges only about $7.15 with coupons and they're the biggest AND the fastest growing registrar in the world.

Why would you want to pay $25... do they offer you any features for this crazy amount... you could have 4x the number of domains for the same renewal fee imo.

We are not exactly cheap but way below namescout - http://resellers.mediawiz.biz and we're resellers of ResellerClub - another one of the fastest growing registrars in the world club. Been in business since 1995 and online since 1998.

Actually .pro and .travel are both $99+ imo.

And the most expensive are various ccTLDs at $2k a pop.

We're essentially talking about gTLDs like .com / .net / etc
